So to me this seems like a case of "We have shareholders to appease. Shareholders LOVE AI! Please give us money!"

Valheim devs clarify stance on modding including a clear no to paid mods

My stance on paid mods is that they're also known as DLC. If a mod is a commercial product, then it's an unofficial DLC, which is worse.
Modding is by nature a community effort built around open-ness and shared collaboration. Can't and shouldn't close off any of that behind a paywall, and there might be legal messes behind making an unofficial mod a commercial product, as others have noted.

Quoting: ElectricPrismNo, that'll probably be what happens if GNOME ever allow proper theming back in "their" desktop environment again. Anyone else looking for an alternative that lets you fiddle with it?GNOME 44 is out now finally adding thumbnails to the file pickerWell, that's it. Hell has frozen over.
EA AntiCheat could spell trouble for Steam Deck / Linux

Good thing too, EA doesn't get to touch my Mass Effect.

Quoting: CyborgZetaCould this be retroactively added to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition? If not, I don't care; I hate EA.This would be one of the few instances where EA not giving a damn about slightly older titles would act in our favour. That kind of thing would take "work". Something EA actively avoids unless it's for their top priority online money-spinner titles.

Kind of a necessary project. I use Replay-Sorcery at the moment, and that works great. Downside is that it's basically abandoned, and there's nothing else quite like it at the moment, so I hope a project like this can fill that void.
Needs to be something you can have running in the background, and use a key combo or something to record the last few minutes of what's in ram or something like that. I prefer something that can dump the last few minutes of gameplay to a video file, not something you have to use to start recording beforehand.

CD Projekt RED 'working closely with Valve' as The Witcher 3 is Steam Deck Verified

I guess we just care more about the games and linux and stuff, and there aren't too many ideologues here yet (unless you count free software and open source) so things are relatively calm. Also people here don't tend to be immature and jump to being abusive towards others.
It is nice to see.
What's also nice to see is CDPR showing some respect for a linux platform, finally. After the Witcher 3 release stuff, I'd given up hope. Then it started working under wine/vkd3d, and Cyberpunk worked fairly well straight out of the gate. Different times indeed.

Quoting: MarlockWho are you people, and what have you done to the internet?! :DThis is one of those few occasions where the community is actually halfway decent. I've seen far worse, I just trawled though a few pages of comments on that steam announcement, and it's full of Russian speakers lashing out at people.

RimWorld upgrades for Steam Deck delayed by the situation in Ukraine

In all seriousness, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a literal miracle. If Ukraine somehow comes out of this in one piece, a few things will happen. Putin will lose credibility, maybe even his presidency. Ukraine will most definitely fast-track joining NATO, as they will feel a need to bolster their ability to defend themselves.
Hope things return to sanity sometime soon. Between this and a possible conflict around Taiwan, things aren't looking good. From a "peace on earth" standpoint, and from a tech standpoint.

Quoting: redneckdrowWaiting for that Russian straw-man to show up anytime now...Well, you won't be disappointed if you hop into youtube, and any video that mentions it. Tech Tips did a video mentioning their sympathies for Ukraine at the moment, loads of "strawmen" on there. They seem to keep busy.

Is dying light via Proton possible? Run the windows version?

Quoting: GuestI still play Dying Light Linux Native a lot and for some reason both the 495 and 510 drivers don't work as in nothing but a black screen with an off centre white box is all you see, so i still have to run 470 driver to play DL.Even if it is a game bug, it's likely exacerbated by something weird that nvidia's doing. Wouldn't be the first time.

Epic Games CEO says a clear No to Fortnite on Steam Deck
9 Feb 2022 at 3:12 pm UTC
Unless you meant something else, I think it's difficult to verify an entire distro as a single signed version, when there are going to be changes of some kind inevitably.
Also, regarding the kernel, that would entirely depend on how it was certified. Considering that is a moot point, as Epic aren't going to do it regardless, it's not a big deal.
I was only trying to establish that the claim by Sweeney about distro/kernel fragmentation was provably wrong in that way, and that somehow enabling Fortnite for the SD wouldn't lock it to SteamOS alone.

Quoting: GuestThat's a bit of a problem, wouldn't that involve digitally signing an entire SteamOS install? What if someone installs a few flatpaks from the package manager, or removes something? Or changes something in the configuration?Quoting: SirBubblesNot at all. It would only be verified as supporting the SD kernel. That kernel would also be available for other users on other distros, so it would hardly lock FortNite (shudder) to the SD distro alone. You can't transplant a kernel to any other system like that because it's the build that's verified, not the source. It might possibly work in some cases, and would most definitely not in others. There are other reasons it wouldn't work and be pointless anyway from a technical perspective (let alone be incredibly bad for a multitude of moral reasons).
