Epic Games CEO says a clear No to Fortnite on Steam Deck

True.

My concern is now, that no developer or publisher will even bother to use the Linux/Wine/Proton enabled AC because of Tim's statement. Why taking the risk at all, if not even the company that creates it has enough convidence to use it in their own products and is vocal about it?
He kills two birds with one stone this way. He gets to not have to bother doing anything to make his big money-spinner work on the SD, and gets to undermine confidence in his competition. All with a single damn tweet.
Damn social media.

Epic Games CEO says a clear No to Fortnite on Steam Deck

Quoting: damarrinHe doesn’t have to support all the various kernel configs, just the official SD one. Isn’t that what the chain of trust is for? Detect signed software and work, don’t and don’t.
in that case, fortinite would be an steamdeck exclusive in the context of linux...
Not at all. It would only be verified as supporting the SD kernel. That kernel would also be available for other users on other distros, so it would hardly lock FortNite (shudder) to the SD distro alone.

Any kernel, however, is going to have its source code made open to anyone who wants to see it. The best way would be to have FortNite keyed to recognise the SD specific kernel to verify that it's "clean", although Epic would have to bother doing that for every kernel update on the SD, and...I find it hard to believe that they'd be bothered, especially under this guy Sweeney's leadership.
Big sigh, but I don't like FortNite and battle royale games anyway. When FortNite comes crashing down (as it must at some point) Epic will likely go with it, as that is what mostly funds Epic as a whole.

I had a wizard I played all the way from 1st to 14th.. Then got sort of stuck... and then of course lost my save game so I have to start over on the main campaign... At least now I think they have cloud saves!
Based on my very old experience with what passes for NWN's single player, is it still even worth it? I thought everyone did NWN for the mods or expansion packs. Hordes of the Underdark was pretty decent, if I recall.

Proton Experimental gets more CEG DRM fixes, new fsync code

Well, I'm hoping that one day, Space Marine might just work. I loved smashing Ork face, but cracking it and running it the old-fashioned way seemed a hassle.

I would love to know how exactly one grabs this version of Proton. Otherwise, how long does one think the wait might be?

Quoting: SirBubblesSo this wine version continues to show a persistent problem with Mass Effect Andromeda. It basically means that mouse input no longer works. I've found that there's nothing I can do about it aside from downgrade wine, and there's almost no information about this bug out in the world either. I've had no luck whatsoever doing anything about it, so I'd love to know: Does anyone else have any information about this issue?
I'm on Manjaro Stable, running wine-5.2 staging.
Having a similar problem with Warframe when running Proton-5.1-GE-1, mouse input is completely wonky: random mouse acceleration and mouse clicks not properly working (mostly noticeable when you continue shooting after clicking). This is with swaywm and XWayland though. Tried to find something on the issue but couldn't. Didn't have a lot of time to test plain X11 and different 5.x versions so I just downgraded to Proton-4.21-GE-1 for a short gaming session.
That's unfortunate, this looks like a pretty serious deal. Is anyone out there in the wine dev world aware of this?

Proton 5.0 for Steam Play released - it's a huge update (updated)

So does anyone have Arkham Knight thinking that it's cracked, when run through Proton? You'll know because you're unable to use the grappling hook, and thus be a little more than screwed. This is apparently an anti-crack measure, but I never saw it whilst running the game through wine steam, so it's a little concerning.

Valve give a little more info on what 'Gamescope' actually does for Linux gaming
16 Jan 2020 at 11:24 am UTC

I would love to see some wayland support from nvidia. Looks like it'll be required for team green users to get any joy out of this gamescope thing, so fingers crossed, I guess. I'm also intrigued by what gamescope is trying to do, so I'll be keeping my eyes on this!

Defiant Development, makers of Hand of Fate are closing up and moving on

I am personally very sad to see this happen. I've liked what I've seen from this studio from the start. That and them being located very close to me physically makes this pretty bitter. I do wish all the staff the best. If I recall correctly they've been heavy hitters in the industry for decades since before this studio, with Total War games and stuff like that.
