Ex-Blizzard devs new RTS 'Stormgate' out in Early Access, works on Linux but may need a small fix
14 Aug 2024 at 2:28 am UTC

allow me to edit once : curious as we are , just checked both the browser and steam client and the game is not even trending in one of the 5 sections. Its nowhere to be seen. Someone might have a hangover by next week. I still wanna try the 3level demo tho if they patch it up. Overpromise, underdeliver, i cant speak for the gameplay but if its in the trending sections nowhere i doubt the opinion of one crazy person will make much difference. Should have tried the €20 all -in approach like ARK started perhaps ... too late now ? i bet ... business at hi level is such an unforgiving place

it looks more like a playable demo than f2p and moreover the way they use skeevy sales from the start 60euro pre-early access packs to an unfinished game that already got kickstarted in the (lemme look that up) , short of 2.5 million ? and then the F2P game is a playable demo after 2 weeks. They might as well have stayed under miCrotter, then at least the game wouldnt look like disney and they could use skeevy tactics all the same.
I can stream it from the stream deck without poking but the mousepoint wont go below half the screen so i'll wait for a patch. I was just curious. This is so totally un-blizzard (like the blizzard we got to love from orcs-vs-humans and up) that it might as well be microsoft xbox studios.
Actually,
If they get popular enough maybe they can be "not blizzard" under the xbox studios label later (wouldnt that be lol) and that would make them Kotick++ (wouldnt that be even loller).
Anyway, it looks like nothing i expected but i should know better than to expect anything by now. But maybe there's a crowd for it. I doubt they'll have torn their pants starting at 2.5 million before coding one line.

Valve faces a £656 million lawsuit in the UK for 'overcharging 14 million PC gamers'

the founder and CEO of "parent zone" ...

i think there we have it, im sure valve charges well but i got tekken for like €40 on cdkeys (totally legit) so its not like they dont allow competition they just use the store for the impatient. Whos responsibility would it be for not opening up a can of google and search for deals ?

the nanny state perhaps ?

A ceo of a thing that has worried parents in the name , a classic formula of trol lawyering and taking on a company like Valve, not crApple, miCrotter or crudBog ?

Who's gonna get the 656 mille anyway ? "the mistreated children" or the ceo's budget for the next suit ?

case dismissed ... theres actual crime and stuff, next time sue microsoft for having a monopoly on Ossseses and not having a monopoly b/c its 4500 companies ...

case dismissed

case dismissed, we dont have time for this and its clearly out to make someones name and pension fund

I hear a lot of complaints about it too despite that for all their freebies Epic cant even take them on and everyone WANTS to be published on steam store and as we (the cat star) poned in paragraph 1 bis 1

who is responsible for not opening a can of google and looking for legit key deals, its not like Valve forbids or prohibits competition by resellers ... i barely ever buy directly from the store

dismissed ?

ASUS reveal the ROG Ally X with more RAM, more storage, larger battery

Quoting: CatKiller
Quoting: denyasis(to be fair, I've had a steam deck for a year and have barely used it, still can't figure out a use case for it for me)
(psst... You play games on it...)
a "stream deck" for the games the linuxmint pc cant play,
other than docked i have only used it once when it arrived and once during a power outage,
but the prices here in soviet Helgium last time i checked went around €800 which is about a ROG (the previous one) i think (thats just belgium for ya) and atm they seem to be "unavailable" but on amazon you can still get some for around 800 to 1000 ... might be different in germany or holland after all Europe is not a country (lol i liked that vid)

The Asus toy seems to be something for ppl who live in disneyland tho, shi---tuff simply isnt affordable anymore tho it looks like small electronics are cheaper than food today. Maybe a sign of how the planet is evolving towards silicon based lifeforms . I like the deck b/c its open and a total linux pc portable with enoug zzaz to run a game like elden ring at super-playable framerates and i can probably play it for 15 weeks on the solar bats if the russians invade and the power goes out lol ... anyway, that asus thing seems to be a pass and more like a toy for kids who still live in disneyland where pink unicorns sound off the day with mary poppins in the sky with diamonds .

No leaving a Steam account in a will after you die according to Valve

Quoting: BogomipsI am pretty sure people are still wondering why piracy will never die as they continue to treat paying customers like criminals (piracy reminders everywhere, DRM, locked platforms, mandatory online connections, etc.)

I still remember using no-cd cracks on my purchased games 25 years ago to avoid putting a CD-ROM into a player that would make as much noise an airplane during take-off…
Hm, sign of the times ... i guess in the end when newell retires it'l end up in the hands of microsoft anyway, just like blizzard versus Kotick, nice retirement bonus. For several reasons i never use cloud services b/c "they own" your data on it and are free to deny you access and frankly , its cheaper to buy rackspace for use at home than having a monthly sub. Afaik EPIC has smallprint that says all your clicks and conduct during play can and will be used to profile you (that might have changed but i doubt it) and it would surprise me valve has that by now.

I keep about all games (since i only have linux anymore so i only buy what runs on linux anymore offline ready-downloaded and as patched as they get and as you say : i still keep all my hard dvds i gathered on a self-tinkered nas made from old parts with mechanical drives b/c i dont wanna scratch them.

Add to all this the mad prices of €100 or close for a single game, its plenty to be very picky . Newel might have been taken over by the triffids from all i see lately. How many original bipeds are still around since 2019 ...

Microsoft's new Recall AI will take screenshots of everything you do - freaky
23 May 2024 at 10:21 am UTC Likes: 4

Quoting: KandarihuI'm sure every authoritarian government on Earth will be demanding access to these screenshots. And Microsoft will probably agree to make it so that Recall will be sending those governments that data. As long as Microsoft doesn't explicitly profit from that, they can still be honest to say that they aren't selling it.
mmhh

you gotta be raving mad to actually want this , im without usa-dos for months now and i havent missed it once

im almost glad it bricked my firmware, only sad the only software to unbrick it seems to run on windows lol

With a Nintendo Switch 2 on the way, I hope Valve make a Steam Deck 2
12 May 2024 at 9:00 am UTC

hm, personally i got it b/c its a full pc and its open without any of the hassle you get from sony or nintendo about modding even the software on it , i almost never used it as a handheld its always docked and i almost play it on the big screen, IN FACT, its a very compact portable linux pc and for the rest i call it my "stream"-deck b/c it plays more games than my linux mint pc does (i dont have windows anymore i ditched it after it bricked the firmware on my ssd drive on a fresh install)

So i guess the Oled is somewhat lost on the likes of me, that said : to Valve, i bet its not about how much they make from selling the decks, its how many clients they get who buy more games because they have one, THATS where their money and cash cows are (i think) so eventually they're gonna have to but i think later is better than too soon here, with the new stuff coming out adding on hardware maybe its better to wait until it settles a little and THEN bang out a better hardware config for less money (b/c for aforemention the end-cow is in the cashwaters ... i mean (lol) the main money is made from the games that are sold on it, now also while driving the bus so to speak)

Ofcourse im not a CEO of a billions company that has clout all the way to China and even if Newel doesnt look the part he sure is one sly fox which has been proven over the years and with all the complaints everyone keeps wanting to be published on steam right ?

Maybe hes one of my all-time fav modernday CEOs actually i dont know what decks go for today but they go HERE (in belgium) for like double or more than what i paid when i got one, last time i saw they went for 800-900 (euros) which puts them next to the Asus one and maybe the other too i dont really follow up i been more into mister fpga and home assistant stuff lately tho my streamdeck is still one of my most prized posessions ... i had but one remark on that : COOLING ... i think it gets too hot too fast which probably takes off of the longevity and putting casefans on it helps but not enough since the case doesnt have enough vent-holes to get a decent flow

Couldnt make any other remark on it tho after i took it out of the box and ever since, since i only run it docked i basically have no idea of battery life but having the option to have a spare, ready-charged bat "on the go" which you can replace while you're in the camper or on the bus to school might also not be the worst idea maybe ...

that said ... i should do some #stuff, thanks to Liam and the boys and girls who make this site happen , we loves it !!!!
