What I want to see in 2023 for Linux, Gaming, Steam Deck and more

I'd like to see better and easier to implement Raytracing and DLSS support on Linux. Getting Portal RTX to run was challenging but doable, however The Witcher 3 Next-Gen still doesn't support RTX and DLSS in DX12 mode. Ditto Cyberpunk 2077, RTX support has been pretty spotty and that sends me back to my Win 10 dual boot to play the game properly there. What we need, I suppose, is better Nvidia driver support within the Linux environment.

Elsewhere, I'd also like to see both a Steam Controller 2 and a Steam Deck Controller. Two controllers would satisfy the two camps constantly bickering: those (like me!) who want touch pads to occupy the primary input space on the controller, and relegate joysticks to the sidelines; and the majority who want a Valve-branded controller with some small touchpads a la Steam Deck, more or less something to pair to their Deck with the same inputs.

I don't think we will see a refresh until mid-2024 at the absolute earliest, and even then I'd feel a little bit spurned that my perfectly-good, barely two-years-old Steam Deck 1.0 must be set aside if I want to take advantage of OLED. If Valve were charitable they'd offer a mail in upgrade service for $150 or whatever.

As usual my adult self and my wallet say "don't buy games, play your backlog instead!", but then I see Norco is 40% off, Hyper Demon is 20% off, The Touryst is 50% off (PS5 can run it at 8K!), Kena 50%, As Dusk Falls is only $13.20... Black Future '88 is $3.41. And then there's yet another playthrough of Witcher 3 Next Gen just waiting for me, installed, ready to go (raytracing and DLSS doesn't work on Linux yet sadly)...

My game of the year 2022 is the Steam Deck

Steam Deck is a bold GOTY, and I'll join you in that assessment as my GOTY as well!
But I'll also pick a GAME GOTY, and the one from 2022 for me was probably Elden Ring overall, though Tunic and Stray and Quake Arcane Dimensions and HL Entropy Zero 2 and FF7 Remake and Eastward all deserve the top nomination.

Here's how to get The Witcher 3 working on Steam Deck after the next-gen update

Quoting: Goggo66The DX12 issue seems to be fixed. Use Proton Hotfix.
Looks great with good performance thanks to FSR.
Concur, this worked, however I could only get raytracing options to populate if I used VVKD3D_CONFIG=dxr in the launch parameters, and the game hangs once the save loads. Without that parameter, DX12 version loads fine and FSR2 works, but DLSS does not. I'll stick to DX11 for now until we get some more proton fixes. I can get raytracing to work in CP77 (with that launch parameter), and it worked out of the box for Portal RTX...

OK I gave it a go on: Ryzen 5 5600X + RTX2060 + 16gb Ram on Pop_OS 22.04. For anyone wondering, go into Pop!Shop and Installed tab and click Install on the nvidia-driver-525 option. I used Proton Experimental (proton GE didn't work).In-game reoslution set to 720P, then I quit out and put -windowed -noborder in the launch param to play at 720p windowed from the desktop.
In-Game: You can hit Alt-X to bring up a Reshade menu. You can quick toggle between High and Ultra, but you can also enable the developer options, and then toggle DLSS to Ultra Performance if you want. Anyway, at "DLSS Auto" and Ultra, I get like 22fps in most test chambers. The elevator areas rocket up to 40fps. Turn on DLSS Ultra Performance and I get what feels like 60fps.
This is a curiosity, a demo. IMO it doesn't show off raytracing that well because most rooms are statically-lit. It's nice that I didn't have to dip into my bios and load Windows to try this out, however!
