Those greedy idiots.
Remember: Zenimax is NOT id software, and they will never be. Hell, they even sued John Carmack.
id is dead. Zenimax looted id's IPs and their community, to the extent that they ripped off Brutal DooM with their latest installment. Granted, it is a good ripoff, but those guys would do any stupid thing for the sake of money.

Anima Gate of Memories, a third person action RPG is now on Linux, some quick thoughts

The fact is that I am a great fan of the older titles, but from the 10th episode onward, it became too cheesy and too incoherent for my tastes. Some less successful series proved way more solid, like Xenogears/Xenosaga/Xenoblade, or the Tales of games, despite being a bit less polished since around Graces/Xilia.
Episode after episode, Final Fantasy has become less and less interesting, despite magazines' ever positive feedback. This time around Final Fantasy XV is met with very mixed feelings.
You should really give Final Fantasy VI a shot, it's an amazing game, far from the stereotypes of the genre.

Quoting: EdmeneI understand ^_^Quoting: omer666I don't want to be rude, but the best Final Fantasy titles are all playable on emulators. I don't think this one would be worth the money. However, with a big discount, I admit I would be tempted...I understand is that Anima gameplay remembered me of a FF XV livestream from yesterday that I watched partially. I was just thinking into a scenario that some people may like since as Liam said: "we don't have many good third person action RPG", Square Enix have allowed ports of games from western studios and had released some Final Fantasy games for windows (something unthinkable some time ago) that works with wine. A really good third person rpg would be Witcher 3 but we all know how it went.
Actually I never played any Final Fantasy and had heard that the old games are better than the new ones, plus I am not into anime or Japanese games in general so the chances of end up buying it are slim. But thanks for the tip on the emulators maybe I will try someday if I develop a desire of playing some part of the FF franchise.

And that bitten Apple, who would like to eat an apple that's already bitten? Is it symbolic of Apple's recent "control freak" politics? Is it a reminder that this computer is still theirs? :P Oh let me guess, must be something about sharing. But who the heck is interested about this today among Apple Inc.'s clients?
Let's give Tux some love or lets just make a Linus Torvalds logo instead. :P

Quoting: meggermanI agree that tux is pretty childish, but let's have a look at the competition: what, a damn Window? Seriously? If tux is childish, Windows' logo is retarded :P . Let's put a cathedral stained glass, for Gates' sake. Or let's put a pretty girl by the Window.Quoting: LukeNukemThe Tux icon is fucking hideous though, and scales down like a lump of cow shit does to a rabbit dropping.I have to admit the logo doesnt scale well. It also looks a bit childish, but what else can we use, a stallman avatar ?

Quoting: Avehicle7887...or is it GOG that fails to remember they wanted to sell some Linux games? Their contribution to Linux gaming is kind of... half-baked, if you ask me.We're really excited to unite our players!Yet they fail to remember that on GOG.com there are Linux users too, and as of yet there's still no Linux version available.

Quoting: subSuch a great game. Yet, not for me.Have you tried the likes of Dawn of War 2, or Company of Heroes 2? They are nothing original or groundbreaking, but I think "solid" is the word. Especially DaW2's Chaos Rising expansion.
Damn, I still want a great story-based single player campaign,
and I'd pay extra for it.
I'm so sick of all these sandbox and multiplayer-only games.
The recent trend is definitely not my friend.
I know, *good* and long single-player campaigns are hard to produce
and costly. But, as I said, I'd pay extra for it. Really.
The Linux & SteamOS port of Killing Floor 2 has been put on hold, it needs a developer

Not a surprise. TripWire has been a big letdown ever since they went the standalone way, first Killing Floor could be retitled "DLC Simulator", but on Linux it's rather "Trying to aim through an opaque sniper scope Simulator". Yes, R. Gordon did the port, but they didn't wish to pay him for fixing it.
I don't think them stupid or ill-talented, but they surely lack in the "professionalism" department.

Quoting: ajgpHave a look at that article from some incredible website:Quoting: omer666When you look at all these AAA games ported by Feral, you can't help but think that Linux gaming is still tightly tied to Mac gaming. I don't think a company like Feral could keep that pace if they only had Linux as a target platform. You know I would be very interested in a rough breakdown in how Port sales are split between Mac and Linux for the like of Feral, Aspyr and VP, even more so on a game to game basis as it would be illuminating to see what % sales Linux gets of 'Demanding' AAA titles compared to Mac. Is it 50/50 or does Mac still have a lead due to the historical larger install base.

The fact that Apple can't keep pace due to their illogical hardware choices is a danger for the whole porting industry. They have lame iMacs and pro graphics MacPro workstations, but nothing in-between. That's one of the many reasons why I left them years ago.
On another hand, gamers who want to avoid Microsoft could possibly consider switching to Linux more often if Apple isn't an alternative anymore, but that's only speculation.
nVidia's recent GTX 1050 Ti could possibly change the whole situation...

Quoting: SgtRomeo9You are right, their Metal API is meaningless and divisive. Not only this, but their strategy when it comes to hardware is to blame as well.Quoting: FredOI didn't think we'd see the day that a Total War game comes to Linux before the MAC. This blog post from Aspyr seems to sum up the situation well though: https://blog.aspyr.com/2016/11/01/state-mac-gaming/ [External Link]Haha what are the odds I was reading the exact same post just now and even thought of adding it to my comment :)
Anyway I'm getting this for sure - I've been drooling over it long enough.
I have to say recently I've been more upset with Apple and Mac than what I am with Microsoft and Windows. Vulkan had a real shot of being the hands down graphics API of choice for all games fullstop. With DX12 being Win10 only and Vulkan being cross-platform across all systems including Windows up to XP, Vulkan could have been the one reason we saw a lot more PC game releases (Linux, Win, Mac).
However with Apple choosing to block Vulkan and have this Metal crap on their systems, they have effectively created this wonderful divide, again leaving us all back at square one. So devs are going to do the following: Vulkan or DX12 for Windows? Lets go with DX12 besides we don't really wanna support Android and Linux isn't really a deciding factor. Besides if we decide to go with a Mac version aswell we have to use Metal so there really isn't any need for Vulkan. And thanks to Apple that is where it ends. No Linux version once again.
