Quoting: omer666Same as Liam, I wasn't a fan of this universe, but now I'm even considering getting a box or two of the tabletop version!
Just don't confuse Warhammer with Warhammer 40K. This game is based on the former. They are kiiiinda in the same universe, but different eras and overall different genres.
This I know, but thanks for clarifying anyway ;)

I devoured DoW II and both its extensions, and loved it so much I just bought DoW Complete Collection to play it through Crossover.

Same as Liam, I wasn't a fan of this universe, but now I'm even considering getting a box or two of the tabletop version!

For those interested, there's a 20% discount and an exclusive character both for TW: Warhammer in this month issue of the White Dwarf. I'm just waiting for the game to be released and I'll get it ASAP.

Quoting: EhvisHow full is the HD? Is it heavily fragmented? This can also seriously affect HD performance. Even SSDs can have variable performance.

If it is an engine issue, then it is an interesting one. IIRC, the whole Batman Arkham Knight disaster was also related to problems in the streaming system. It is even more interesting if you realise that the problems appeared on PC and not consoles even though consoles have the slower hardware.
Not full at all, and not fragmented. It is a new drive, a 7200rpm 2.5" Hitachi on SATA-3.

Furthermore, I have tweaked my swappiness, since I have 16GB RAM on that machine, hence:
vm.swappiness=1 #<- that one prevents using SWAP to the minimum
vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50 #<- that one could be tweaked a little more I guess.
This is on Archlinux. I do not see the 16GB RAM being entirely consumed, but I may need to monitor this more closely.

Maybe there could be some kernel tweaking to do.
I've got 16GB too and I completely disable swap.

Phoronix just did a few benchmarks, and it looks like it's nearing 30 fps on a gtx 1050 Ti on high settings. So it turns out I'll get to play this game somewhere around Xmas, with some tweaks I guess I could get decent framerate.

Quoting: omer666After looking up on YouTube, I saw that GTX 1050 Ti offers approximately the same performance as a GTX 680, but with 4 GB of VRAM. Will I run the game on Low settings with a 1050 Ti or can hope to play on Medium? I was considering getting a new card and I don't want to spend 300 bucks on a 1060...
Pick up a used 970?
That's an idea, but I'm not used to buy used GPUs, at 200 bucks that's a risk I don't want to take. I guess I'll wait for some benchmarks to make my mind. I've been waiting for this game so bad...

That's pretty tough requirements. On Windows it runs on my poor old GTX 660, I guess this time it's... the end :'(

Ouch... I'm equipped with a plain GTX 660, not the Ti one. It's the first time I'll pass on a Linux game because of not meeting the required horsepower. Doh!

What have you been playing recently, and what do you think?

Dawn of War II, and I'm completely blown away.

Valve looking to contract experienced Mesa developers to work on the open source AMD driver for OpenVR

That's a great thing to have Vulkan running on top of open source AMD stack, indeed. As a side note, I think a company like Valve could be the one who could handle some of the cost for OpenGL certification for the open source drivers.
