Civilization: Beyond Earth Mac And Linux Dev Update

Well, posting about that here is very much preaching to the converted I am afraid
Yeah, sorry I was just venting my frustrations :P

I think in time, developers will get the idea. Old habits die hard.

Civilization: Beyond Earth Mac And Linux Dev Update

The good news is that it's fully playable, but performance is an issue due to the new game using Directx 11 as opposed to their previous port using Directx 9.
Why not just develop directly with OpenGL? What are the benefits of DirectX today? In the long run, it just causes more work for the devs (or third parties like Aspyr). Hopefully we'll be rid of it soon so we can have true multi-platform development, but until then Microsoft's "standards" will just be a hurdle towards progress, like IE was for web developers for many years.

Kudos to Aspyr though for keeping us up-to-date with things.

Three Argentine Kickstarter Projects Worth Checking Out, Plus Developer Comments on Linux

According to the Kickstarter page:

And we’re still working on Asylum, which was successfully Kickstarted last year and is in the final stages of production (we promise, it’s really coming!)
From a development point of view, it makes sense to start things before you've finished others so that there aren't idle hands. I can't really comment on Asylum in particular though because I never followed the project until recently.

Nice! Make tour of Poland
Yup, very high on the list!

To all the Canadians: I'll come back and do a part 2 because it doesn't make much sense to put that many games in one part. Cheeseness - I'll message you and Hamish when I submit that next part (probably towards the end of next month or later) so you can make sure I have everything covered :)

Got the missing executable too...

It's a mystery to me how devs release ports for these big AAA games and they never work for the first couple of days. It's not like I'm using Puppy Linux or anything either, this is Xubuntu 14.04 - on which the game is supposed to have been tested.

Oh well, hopefully in the next few days it should be fixed.

Downloading the game now.

Got given a free copy of Dead Island Pandemic (worth $20), did anyone else get this? It's not on Linux, so I don't really care much for it.. But when they port it I guess i'll be interested.

Quoting: liamdaweThere's enough there for a Canada part 2 :P
Haha yeah, I think I'll do that instead of editing this one. With a population of 32 million, Canada might be a contender for "biggest game-to-population ratio".
