Metro: Last Light Redux Showing Signs Of Getting The Linux Version Out
1 Sep 2014 at 3:32 pm UTC

I'm so glad it is looking like it will be sooner rather than later! I have the steamdb entries for both of them bookmarked and check them probably more often than I should ;)

It's killing me knowing the data is there, but I can't have it! Wish they would open up testing to the linux community.. or maybe just us here at GOL? I can understand not wanting to open up a beta for the win crowd.. but everyone knows the linux crowd tends to be very useful when it comes to testing and bug reports.

as for "It will be interesting to see if we have any more graphical options, as opposed to the unhelpful slider in the original Last Light on Linux." all signs point to them going for feature parity with the win and linux versions this time so I sure hope so. I'm just hoping that they do in fact look the sameish and that performance on linux blows windows out of the water.

My buddy was over yesterday and I used his steam acct on my win install to load it up and try it out. Settings maxed -SSAO -vsync and @ 5760x1080 I was running at 40-50ish fps most of the time. Not awesome, but honestly better than I thought my ageing rig was going to handle it. I only played for a few minutes, but it looks great overall.

Metro 2033 Redux For Linux Looks Closer To Reality

Quoting: fleskOh, so they're dropping support for Mac? I thought I'd seen that somewhere before (and looking at SteamDB there are only depots for Windows and Linux at the moment), but I wasn't sure.
That is "word on the street" anyhow. As far as I can find they have never said it was coming to mac at all. Ive seen some early articles that mention mac, I guess they were just making assumptions because I have not seen anything directly from 4A that mentions mac. Considering the whole point of these versions was to make them look and run better, it kind of makes sense. They already did the best they could do with the archaic OGL used by apple. Apple did bump up to 4.1 with mavericks and has stuck with it for Yosemite as well.. so they are still behind. *laughs*

Metro 2033 Redux For Linux Looks Closer To Reality

Man I sure hope it is soon. Im very much itching to play them and I'm not so sure ill be able to wait more than a couple of weeks before I give in and load at least 2033 up on windows. Ive been a good penguin so far though. I want the stats for the games on my account to at the very least show that I installed them and played them all the way through on linux first. I know ill end up installing on win after to do some comparison shots between the two. It is my understanding that this will not be as gimped on linux as the original LL was due to the outdated ogl used in order to support mac. There will supposedly be very little if any difference in visuals between the linux and win version.

Hopefully there will be less issue for the linux launch.. looking through the forum on steam the win crowd was/is having some pretty serious issues.

DreadOut Third-Person Horror Game Released on Steam

Quoting: vultureprofessional reviewers? that is pure example of Nickelback effect

i can only remember 1 or 2 games where my favourite games were above 85, most being under 70, some even under 50. i can also remember whole lot of almost 100 that sucked as hell. take AC for example, they put so much in graphics, they forgot they are making game and not movie.

when i see someone putting grade on review, i simply don't click on it. same as i don't care about trailers. google "gamex gameplay video" and there is your score. if you like it, buy it, if you don't, don't
+10

this goes for almost all media.. games.. movies.. music..

When it comes to sites like metacritic I don't even read the the critic reviews, I go straight for the user reviews.. then I look for a demo.. if no demo.. torrent. Legality aside.. wait.. no i just dont care. Dont want me torrenting your game.. make a demo available, its that simple.. oh yea and make it good =) ill buy it. I hate dealing with cracks and tracking down updates. That alone makes purchasing things worth it to me.

GOL Cast: Tower Defence, FPS Style in Sanctum 2

I tried it when it was free to play last weekend I think. I encountered every problem others have stated. It was simply unplayable even a little bit for me. Sucks.. it looks like it has potential.

Quoting: muntdefemsMaybe not on Steam, but there actually is a Linux demo: http://dreadout.com/#demo [External Link]

Shame it's only in the form of a .deb package...
oohh. I did not use my ninja google skills ;)

/me cracks knuckles, and gets to work =)

*UPDATE.

Well that was easy.. I just grabbed the game out of the deb and put it in my games folder and launched it. I have other unity games I run without steam so I kinda figured I would already have the dependencies covered.

The Steam Controller: Not Everyone Gets It
21 Aug 2014 at 8:08 pm UTC Likes: 1

My interest is certainly piqued, I hope that a local shop has a steam machine with one of them that I can try out. I was NEVER good at aiming with a thumb stick and is why my foray into xbox360 FPS gaming with friends didn't really last long. It will be interesting to see if people who are good with this controller can hang with the WASD crowd where precision it necessary (FPS).

One of my long time friends who moved away years ago that I played FPS's with on xbox360, who is damn good with a controller and use to wipe the floor with my virtual dead body recently came out my way for vacation (right near da beach ;) ). I had not seen him in a really long time and was surprise to find out that he had never played a fps on a pc since like doom1 days. I sat him down at my battle station, and he was amazed! Not only had he never seen a 3 screen gaming setup or even know it was possible, he had never "aimed" with a mouse. I loaded up MetroLL and gave him a quick rundown. It took him a few minutes to get the hang of WASD movement and mouse aiming. Once he did he played for about 30 minutes without saying anything.. just in the zone. When he stopped and turned around all he said was "WOW, I never want to play a FPS using a controller against someone using a KBnM". I showed him the prototype steam controller and even he thought that was a way better design than any XBox or PS controller. I wonder if it will be possible to use one on an XBone?

How To Build A Budget Steam Machine
17 Aug 2014 at 7:31 pm UTC

Quoting: RattleheadI just counted same prices for Russia (KFA2 GTX 750Ti not avalible in russia yet, so I raised its price for postage. If replace it with another GTX750Ti card - price will be even lower):
The Machine - ~19608 Rub = ~545$
Xbone - ~21000 Rub = ~583$
PS4 - ~20050 Rub = ~557$

Also I would like to add a blu-ray drive in Machine. It would be good to have a full media center near the TV (and PC functionality in the media is much better compared to consoles). It will cost me about 80$ and the Machine will be somewhat more expensive than their competitors.

P.S. Sorry for my (probably) teяяible eиglish.
I have never tried as the only BR drive in my whole houes is my PS3, but can you even play a blu-ray in linux without having to jump through hoops? I use my ps3 with CFW to rip disks to iso, then ftp them over to my main pc and decrypt and convert the main movie to an MKV and stick it on my NAS for streaming to my couple of htpcs running XBMC.

The Witcher 2 Gains Yet Another Performance Beta

Quoting: EKRboi2x EVGA GTX-580 SC
Just a suggestion, but what's your performance without SLI? I wonder if just having the one card would improve your performance as a 580 (in Windows) should be able to max this game out.
My setup with linux is a bit different. I have 3 1080p monitors (2 monitors on one card, 1 on the other) using nvidia's basemosaic option. Most things I play spanned across all 3 @ 5760x1080 (http://www.gamingonlinux.com/forum/topic/302/page=5 [External Link]). Short of turning off monitors and changing up my xorg.conf I can't exactly disable one. Maybe ill try for sh*ts-n-giggles when I feel like diggin under my desk ;D

EDIT* without vsync it does run closer to 60 fps than not most of the time.. but vsync drops it to 30 since it's stable.
