Steam Families announced with parental controls, no more library locking

Love to see it. My partner got her first gaming PC at the end of last year and only has a handful of games in her library. Now with this change she pretty much has 2000.

Humble Choice for March 2024 has Nioh 2, Saints Row, Citizen Sleeper

As per usual, the Steam reviews for Saints Row are just 1 sentence garbage which don't tell me anything about the game. I'm aware it's not meant to be that great, but does anyone have experience as to why? I really loved SR4, but I also know some people really didn't because it threw any semblance of sanity out the window. For that reason I've always preferred 3 and 4 to 1 and 2.

Steam had a bit of a scam problem with fakes of Helldivers 2 and Palworld

Whitehole Games, one of the developers who attempted this scam, also repurposed a few other games to try and scam people with fake pages for Last Epoch and Escape from Tarkov. I tried to look a bit deeper into Whitehole specifically and ended falling into a spiral of games all linked to Whitehole somehow, but with a plethora of different developer and publisher names attached, like Fest Studio, Jamaicaa, and Raverman. There's like 12 or so games attached to these names in total, and pretty much all of them have 10 reviews, all positive.

Lies of P recently removed Denuvo and it's on sale - good time for soulslike fans

It gets so much about the Souls genre right. The only areas I think it falters are in level design and storytelling. Less so the latter; the premise is interesting and the narrative points are all there, but a lot of the concepts, dialogue, and environmental tidbits which make Souls stories what they are are just a bit off.

The level design - in that it's super linear and exploration is nearly entirely missing - is what really prevents Lies of P from sitting with the big boys.

Still though, it gets the combat and atmosphere so right, and I'm really looking forward to Neowiz's next release.

There's no end to Vampire Survivor-likes with Temtem: Swarm announced

Temtem doesn't really have the creature designs to spawn a franchise in my opinion. Every piece of media about the game nowadays heavily relies on Platypet, probably because it's one of the few really good designs.

Then again, after Vampire Survivors (which I really enjoyed), nothing has really grabbed me in the same way. Halls of Torment was fun enough, but I just kept wondering why I didn't just go play VS instead. I'm yet to see a really big evolution with this genre.

More details on the Manjaro Orange Pi Neo gaming handheld

However it will be at the lower end of Steamdeck pricing.
How though? Every other 7840u handheld is miles off even the highest end Steam Deck price, even considering early bird indigogo discounts. The big players like Asus and Lenovo can't get close either.

Quoting: constI'd really like to play a good city builder on the Deck. Did any of you have a good experience with one in portable mode?
I tested it for 15 minutes last night on the Deck and it ran absolutely fine, though obviously I don't know what it's like as your town gets bigger. Controls were fine too, just mapped zooming out to the triggers, but by default moving the camera with the left stick and mouse control with the right trackpad worked perfectly.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition launches on PC on March 21st

Speaking for me, it made me buy my first console ever, a PS4 Pro, just to be able to play this gem. I absolutely love it and was pretty much blown away by the story behind it. Admittedly I'm a sucker for such settings. :)

If Sony wouldn't release this one for PC, which fortunately they do these days, I would have had to get me a PS5 just for this game. :)
I have the same problem but with Demon Souls. Every month I get tempted to pick up a PS5 but so far I'm staying strong and keeping up hope.

AYANEO NEXT LITE no longer ships with SteamOS-like HoloISO Linux - Windows 11 instead
25 Jan 2024 at 11:28 am UTC Likes: 11

The streamlined and efficient HololSO system aims to offer players a more convenient game management, smooth and stable gaming performance, lower overall power consumption, and native compatibility with both controllers and touchscreen operations. This approach aligns with the gaming habits of handheld device users, providing players with a richer selection of operating systems.
It seems weird that in their statement announcing the switch to Windows, they highlight the benefits of HoloISO, and offered no tangible reason for switching to Windows other than literally "Real Gamers, Know Gamers".

To me, this thing only ever made sense as a low powered Steam Deck alternative, lighter, weaker, but more than capable of playing all the small indie games which typically work on Linux. Sticking Windows on it seems to imply people want to play games like Destiny on it, but at that point, surely it's just worth spending a bit extra and getting an Ally or something that can play those games properly.

This new Humble Bundle has some great Soulslikes

Worth it for Remnant alone to be honest, even though it has one of the most confusing endings in recent memory - in that I was expecting like 20 hours more game and then it just ended with a naff final boss.

If there was a genre similar to rogue-lites for Souls games, this would be a prime example of that. It's not as similar to Souls-likes such as Lies of P or Lords of the Fallen, but rather incorporates some of the elements of those games like the difficulty, death mechanics, and focus of boss fights, though by and large is just a very solid third person shooter.

I'll probably pick this up for Clash though. The first game is wonderfully weird. The second less wonderful, but still very weird. ACE Team in general are very weird and very wonderful.
