Magicka 2 Looks Like It Will Have Lower Performance On AMD Cards

My understanding is that Nvidia hacks around a lot of common mistakes and bad practices in OpenGL code. Basically it'd be better for compatibility if games were primarily (but not exclusively) tested and optimized on an AMD gpu, as this would - at least in theory - result in cleaner code that would most likely run just fine on Nvidia's drivers as well. Although coding strictly to spec without great documentation and tooling (test suites etc.) is really hard and time-consuming.
You nailed it. If you're primarily developing with Nvidia's drivers and then intend to get your code working on other hardware as well, you're only making things more difficult for yourself. Like in general, for multiplatform development, you should not start with targeting a specific platform and then try to port your software - go multiplatform from the beginning!

You could argue, that starting development on AMD (GPUs) is safest, because they stick with the OpenGL specifications. However, it's not that their drivers are working perfectly (surprise!) ;) What worked best for me is developing on AMD and test stuff very frequently on Nvidia and Intel during development. Developing on Nvidia and make it work on AMD and Intel afterwards was worst.

Speculation: BioShock Infinite Might Be an eON port

If the dev doesn't want to comment on this, just leave it that way. When the game arrives, we'll see how it works. If the port is shit, we still have enough time to flame :)

And if it works fine, who'd care about it being an EON port or not?

Doing anything near the Linux community is like playing Dota 2 online: you need a very thick skin.

Good to read the update, but anyway, this has more of a political meaning as a practical one. The hardware specs aren't quite convincing. That thing won't compete with PS4 for sure.

Don't Get Your Hopes Up On Borderlands 2 On Linux Says Randy From Gearbox

Quoting: liamdaweWhat's not to be "butthurt" about that?
I thought you're feeling butthurt, because we should lower our hopes for a borderlands 2 port. I mean, I can understand your opinion about Colonial Marines very well, but I think that one doesn't belong to this news/article, does it?

Quoting: liamdaweI paid out for two pre-order copies ~£60 of Colonial Marines based on "actual game-play" videos
I hope you learned your lesson then :D

Don't Get Your Hopes Up On Borderlands 2 On Linux Says Randy From Gearbox

I never get my hopes up about anything Randy & Gearbox do since their utter failure with Colonial Marines (not on Linux), they utterly lied about it including showing game-play trailers that weren't in the game! Thankfully that was my last Windows purchase, hopefully forever.
Sounds like you're butthurt, or why else would bring that unrelated stuff up? :P

Anyway, too bad. I was always close buying this game, but there was always be something more interesting. A port for Linux would have been my chance to catch this up. Too bad :/

Well, maybe we'll see future titles of that branch. Still, with all the DLCs out there, wouldn't that boost the profitability of a port even though there's a comparably small market share?

Focusing on one platform and porting it afterwards is much harder than writing software for cross-platform usage from the beginning.

Just why do I always get headaches if I hear a game-dev talking about something related to software development?

plx uninstall ... :P
