Free and open source Settlers-like, Widelands v1.3 is out with market trading and new maps

I haven't played completely through the various campaigns but I haven't noticed this inconsistency so far.

From what I can see from their wiki, they work primarily in 2D graphics. 3D models are only used for animation effects. The dev team seems very concerned with maintaining a consistent look.

Quoting: CreakThe way I see it, Windows users are the beta testers, for once 😂

Would that make the macOS client the alpha test? 😋

Quoting: LoftyMy version is the Flatpak, idk if that is any different from any other sources. Perhaps there was an update recently, i did check early yesterday.

thx

I'm using the AppImage myself. browser.ml.enable does default to false but, for some reason, mine was set to true. Don't know if I wasn't paying attention and set it to true by mistake or if it shipped that way. The only thing I import is the bookmarks. I always manually configure the settings and plugins.

I don't expect much more from these MMO's. In my experience, they all utilize the same formulaic approach to gameplay and have shallow, boring quests and storylines. The theme may change but when you've played one, you've played them all. They just lack the depth of a well-made single-player game for me.

I also resent paying full price just to get the software then having to pay a monthly subscription fee to actually play the game. I realize that the financial approach of these games has changed somewhat since the advent of microtransactions but then I fall back to my impressions in the first paragraph. Even being free just doesn't make them any more enjoyable for me.

As you can probably tell, it's been a long time since I've even looked at one. MMOs -- and online games in general -- just don't sync with me, what can I say.

Quoting: doragasuToo late, today I switched to LibreWolf after literally DECADES of loyalty, and everything is working great, I'm not going back unless things change A LOT.

Also about that killswitch, let me guess, it will be opt-out and will reset each time a update is installed, right?
btw read those settings above. They are currently enabled in Librewolf too.

@Lofty
This contradicts with @redneckdrow's observation (and @toru9999's too) in the other thread:

browser.ml.enable -> false
problem solved
Just checked, this is the default in Librewolf.

I'm not able to confirm this setting at the moment. Have you looked into it?

Valve's stats don't include time spent in offline mode or when you're without internet.

Making this an absolutely pointless feature for me, since ALL of my gaming is done offline with no Internet.

Switched to LibreWolf a month ago. Won't be going back. Sorry, Mozilla, the trust is gone. A new, useless CEO won't change that.

Vulkan-based translation layer for Direct3D 7 on Linux, D7VK has a 1.0 release out now

Quoting: tpauGeforce below 20xx series and amd below 480 are stuck on 1.1.
I happen to have both Geforce 980 and AMD RX 480.

It may not be as bad as you think. According to my research, the GeForce GTX 980 supports Vulkan 1.3 in Linux and Vulkan 1.4 in Windows. Conversely, the Radeon RX 480 supports Vulkan 1.4 in Linux (latest Mesa) and Vulkan 1.3 in Windows.

The GeForce 10 Series supports Vulkan 1.3 (1.4 in Windows). I know, as I have a member of that series. Strange about the GeForce 20 Series.* Even my older GeForce GT 730M supports Vulkan 1.2 in Linux and Vulkan 1.3 in Windows.

😀

* Apparently, it was initially limited to Vulkan 1.1 but it now supports up to Vulkan 1.4 in both Linux and Windows.

The RAM price and availability situation is going to worsen as Micron pull their Crucial consumer business

I guess that might explain the state of the Linux version of their Storage Executive Software. It used to be available with a GUI. From what I can see, the latest version is only available with a CLI. The old GUI version won't run on Mint 22 (Ubuntu 24.04).

Not surprised about the price increase on memory. Pricing has cycled like that before. Especially when the big three are colluding to create artificial scarcity. I am a little surprised, however, that a major hardware component company has decided to put all their eggs in one basket like they've done. Not a very wise business decision. Consumers will remember the slight.

Edit: Fixed typo on Ubuntu version number.
