Old news.

That's one of the problems with the Internet is that it's too easy to mistake old news for current news. GOG posted their financials for 2022 back in May 2023. They made a $1.2M USD net profit in 2022.

I think that the media and the investor community overreacted somewhat, viewing things in the short-term as they do. GOG did an excellent job of bouncing back from what amounts to a blip in their annual financial results.

Nothing wrong with third party solutions, especially if they make things easier for you.

I use AppImageLauncher [External Link]. It integrates the AppImage file into the main menu, prompts to move the file to a default folder (Applications, but it can be changed) and I think it can even monitor for updates as well.

Every distro I've used has needed no configuring beyond setting the file as executable. Some do this by default.

No need to CLI, most GUI file managers allow you to right click and set the file to executable via Properties these days.

That's just the propaganda of capitalism. There are other options that the elite just don't want us to look at. Try syndicalism (businesses are co-ops owned by the workers), distributism (Gandhian economics) or social credit (banks owned by the state). The info is all online.

What hardware is currently supported? Turing (RTX 20XX and GTX 16XX) and later GPUs, with plans to go far back even to Kepler (GeForce 600 and 700 series).

I played Diablo 2 Classic exclusively for nearly 3 years, only stopping to dabble in Dungeon Siege, before I discovered Morrowind a year after its release. It took TES 3 to dethrone my addiction to single-player Diablo 2.

(Sorry, I am not a fan of multiplayer gaming.)

Titan Quest - Can’t speak to this one, as I haven’t played it

Based on my recent experience with the 2006 Titan Quest demo, I have to say that you really missed out. This game is so good that it is reigniting my interest in action RPG games. I particularly like that it is not gothic-themed like the Diablo series.

Based on your recommendation, I will have to investigate Grim Dawn at some point ...

I can't see the need to sandbox WINE itself. WINE is a translation layer, not an application, after all.

WINE offers the ability to create prefixes within which to run Windows applications. Tools like Lutris, Heroic, Bottles or PlayOnLinux exploit this feature by creating individual prefixes for each Windows program. Using tools such as Winetricks (under Change Settings) or Winecfg (Desktop Integration tab), it is possible to further sandbox those prefixes, which should achieve the goal your looking for.

Lutris also has a configuration switch to sandbox its prefixes but that does not completely isolate the prefix as it leaves access to your Downloads and Templates folders open. I use Winecfg from within Lutris to disable those mappings.

I haven't played much with flatpaks, but it is my understanding that if you've installed the game launcher via flatpak, it is, by default, sandboxed already. In theory, any prefixes it creates should also be within that flatpak's sandbox.
