Always has been.

DXVK 2.4.1 brings improvements for launchers, more robust D3D8, lots of game fixes for Linux
27 Sep 2024 at 2:21 pm UTC

For Proton 9 and Proton Experimental:

path-to-your/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Proton x.x/files

Proton 8 and below:

path-to-your/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Proton x.x/dist

Where x.x is whatever Proton version installed you wish to give a new DXVK.

Inside there you will see "lib" and "lib64", for 32bit and 64bit. Inside each of those, there's a "wine" folder and inside there is a "dxvk" folder and that's where you replace the files with new versions. If you mess anything up, one way to ensure it gets reinstalled cleanly is just to remove the "/dist" folder.
Thank you so much for providing this info! BTW VKD3D version too can be altered the same way right?

Slay the Princess - The Pristine Cut is a big free upgrade coming in October

This game contains insane gore (amputation of different body parts with blood)... I would not recommend it to anyone below 30 years old...

Microsoft Windows kernel changes don't suddenly mean big things for Linux gaming

Quoting: _MarsAt the end of the day, if developers want to block unsupported platforms, they have plenty of methods to do so. And there is no way to prevent this. The only option is to convince companies to consider Linux as a supported platform.

Which needs:

Enough players

An actual solution to the anti-cheat situation
Do not give in to the demands of moron corporate overlords like Tim Sweeney. Do not view the world like they do: everything is dark no matter how much money you have.
If the game devs care about their game or are passionate about their craft, they'd be more interested than the player to make their games run on as many platforms as possible.
We have literally game pirates talking about installing Linux and testing their "crack" with Wine to make sure it runs in there as well xD! Literally.
How is this possible that a "cyber criminal" (depending on which region you live) cares more about the player experience than the actual game developers? It absolutely is not the case, it is because morons like Sweeney are in control.

Linux system performance optimizer GameMode v1.8.2 out now fixing hybrid CPU core pinning
20 Aug 2024 at 3:21 am UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: KithopI'd be curious to really understand why that makes such a big difference, like - when the other CCD is parked, does that free up power budget / TDP room for clocks on the remaining CCD?
I have no idea why core pinning is so ineffective compared to parking...

Quoting: Kithop(Also, might be fun to play with this being a thing on a per-game basis)
While you're at it, you can also try with SMT (multi-threading) disabled (needs su):
# echo off > /sys/devices/system/cpu/smt/control
This has resulted in MASSIVE performance increase for me (for some games only, most others will regress in performance).

and also you can try disabling all CPU security mitigations (this one will require a reboot to take effect) with kernel parameter (editing /etc/default/grub -> GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT -> inserted after "quiet splash [put here without brackets]" and then `sudo update-grub`): mitigations=off.
This has resulted in around 10% increased performance as well. So overall might not be worth it.

Quoting: Kithop(In my particular case, the RX 7600 is definitely the bottleneck regardless, but that may change in a cycle or two..)
If you enable fake frames (upscalers + frame gen) you will get CPU-bounded most of the time... In fact you already can have Frame Gen enabled for most of new games by using this Linux compatible mod: DLSS Enabler [External Link] . This mod will make frame gen available for all DX12 games on all DX12 compatible GPUs (granted DLSS 3 is implemented on the game). Don't forget to use WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version, dxgi=n,b" after installation to make it work.

One last thing from one X3D enjoyer to another: if you mainly game, you can limit the CPU temperature in BIOS to 65C with literal ZERO consequences in performance. Literal zero (not in workloads though, they will regress. but for gaming, you will reduce temps from like ~78C to 65C while having same performance).

Linux system performance optimizer GameMode v1.8.2 out now fixing hybrid CPU core pinning

Quoting: KithopI just recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7950X3D based system and have been playing around with the latest git version of gamemode for the core pinning and it's been working great! Glad to see it released.

Essentially, in my case it helps pin the game's threads to the CCD that has the extra X3D L3 cache (even if the max frequency is a little lower), leaving the other 'regular' CCD alone for background and other tasks.

Similar with the various heterogenous core concepts like Intel's 'P' and 'E' cores, presumably, and ARM's big.LITTLE.

Most games are GPU limited, but you can still get some modest performance boosts (<= 10fps or so) with this change, at least on my particular setup. I'd imagine keeping game threads off of the Intel efficiency cores would make a much bigger difference.
Hi
Core Pinning performance gain is minimal for X3D CPUs. use Core Parking instead:
open as root: /usr/share/gamemode/gamemode.ini
under "CPU", change core_parking=yes and also follow the instructions to add yourself to gamemode group (else core parking won't work). This can MASSIVELY increase performance exactly like how AMD has done it in Windows.

Look here [External Link] for more info (and also a benchmark).

Linux hits another all-time high for July 2024 according to Statcounter
1 Aug 2024 at 12:05 pm UTC Likes: 11

Thank you for this report!
In truth, people are simply unaware of Linux.. unaware of its gaming capabilities, its now ease of use.. etc.. They are also kept back by invasive technologies such as SecureBoot which usually prevents installation of Linux..
My Windows 11 enjoyer brother-in-law was truly having a blast playing games on my Linux PC... he was also in disbelief of how good it was performance wise... (I never asked/pushed him though, he simply turned the PC on to try it himself and now has a new view on Linux..)

If people knew how easy Linux has become and how amazing levels it has reached regarding gaming performance (that it can sometimes outperform Windows 11 in even AAA titles with proton overhead!!) they would certainly use it.

Distros such as Linux Mint, Nobara, CachyOS, have given Linux both the easy GUI/OOB-Gaming experience and also have kept the power of the Terminal as well so users can really enjoy using Linux (best of both worlds)... (at least this has been the case for me who migrated from Win 7 to Linux for 2 years now..).

Last Epoch adds a new evade ability, a new end-game system, more boss fights
11 Jul 2024 at 10:30 pm UTC

Judge me as you will, but when I first played Last Epoch and saw "Eleventh Hour Games" in the menu, I though to myself this game is only eleven hours long! and it made me very sad!

This game is absolutely amazing (in regards to gameplay) and a must play for those who never played this genre (ARPG).

Your goal in this genre of games is this: How to not play the game. (how to one shot the entire screen therefore not needing to play the game anymore. it is quite unique and very entertaining especially Last Epoch flavor!)

Kaspersky release a free Virus Removal Tool for Linux
3 Jun 2024 at 12:48 pm UTC Likes: 11

Quoting: NeoTheFoxI would never advise anyone to run anything that came out of Kaspersky Lab on their machines. Don't forget that Kaspersky lab is directly run by the Russian intelligence service, and it's on the US National Security risk list [External Link]
I've used Kaspersky for almost 4 years on 2x Win 7 systems and it is incredibly effective and incredibly light on resources. And you are helplessly mind-washed by media to believe words of US National Security, a government that spies on its own people, has 0 respect for their private internet activities, listens to them while they are inside electric-cars or using smart TVs, collects and sells their information, uses Microsoft OS to basically control and own the entire digital world, implements CPUs within CPUs (Intel Management Engine and equivalent of it on AMD CPUs) to backdoor their hardware at will and witch-hunts whistle blowers for life.
And what has Russia done exactly that you are on high alert? Where is their spyware?
