Unity 5.6 to release March 31st with 'out of the box support for Vulkan'

"Not only that, but developers who upgrade their Unity version could hopefully ship a Linux (and Windows) build using Vulkan."

Feels like most developers that use unity cite that they will inevitably run into problems when upgrading that requires quite a bit of play testing to flush them out. Additionally once flushed out they have to either undo workarounds applied for the previous version, or make entirely new ones for the new one, that makes the process difficult. So for completed games I wouldn't count on it too much from small developers.

It would be nice if one day game engine upgrades could be drop in replacements but there must be way too much happening under the hood for it to happen in the present.

'gifine' is a pretty simple open source tool for making small gifs and videos

Neat it looks like it even has the gif optimization built right into the exporting. That goes a long way in making the program ridiculously easy to use and provides an actually useful result. Took me a while to figure out why my gif's were coming out so crappy and this software seems to take that issue right out of the equation.

Price has jumped to $40? Glad I grabbed this on kickstarter at $15 then. Also glad they kept good on their linux port promise but I wasn't too worried about that part. If they were coding for games as far back as the 90's then a linux port should be an absolute walk in the park with todays toolkits. Was mostly certain going into this backing that I wasn't throwing money at some script kiddies that want one button push publishing for everything.

What one game would blow your mind if it came to Linux & SteamOS?

Elder Scrolls Online. But I'm really, really, hoping it doesn't because now I'm getting so much done in my free time.

Shadow Warrior 2 may not come to Linux after all, it's getting a bit confusing

Quoting: FeistVery frustrating from a gamers perspective, it would be better if everyone involved would just utterly deny any plans of a linux version, as long as they weren´t 90% certain one would be made.
There'd be less money flow if they did that and they know it. "Every developer uncertain about linux support that ended up not supporting linux had maintained the lie to the very end so they can't blame us if we do it too."

We Happy Few to release on Linux after the full release, not during Early Access

My little sister showed me the trailer for this a couple months ago and said she thought it looked really neat. I didnt know it was coming to Linux, I'll have to scoop this up.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided looks like it may be getting a Linux & SteamOS release

The Steam reviews for this game are tanking a bit so the game developers will probably try to do some overhauls to satisfy player base before putting legitimate effort into a mac/linux port. IF this does get a linux port my guess is it's well down the road.
