That kind of racer where no matter what you do, it's all decided in the last lap. Awesome arcade racer! Still having loads of fun with it too!

SteamPlay... SteamOS 3.0 in active development... I think I will wait for the second wave of Steam Machines (Ryzen + Vega based). :D
Valve have rolled out Steam Play into the stable Linux Steam Client, along with touch controls for Steam Link

Edit: In fact, it's quite the contrary... With the default behavior, you are on your own to find the Whitelisted games. You cannot install random games, it's locked. At this point, you are aware of what you are doing. And if you turn on SteamPlay on all titles, It must be assumed that you definitely know what you are doing. :)

Quoting: elmapulactually, that is bad news. You still have to turn on the "Activate SteamPlay on all title" switch. The default behavior makes only the Whitelisted games available to all. This said, I would bring back the SteamPlay icon to identify the Whitelisted games.
that means a lot of people will test a lot of games that dont run , without entering in the beta.
the ideal solution would be to either:
1)add an steamOS logo to the game
2)enable only games that were fully tested to run for those who arent on beta.
by adding it to the stable client, people have no way to tell if an game will run prior to install it and try it for then selves until the game crashes.
they may be informed that the compatibility layer isnt perfect and all, but they still dont have to tell if any Q/A was done to make sure the game run perfect, or it will have an issue in an random part of the game.

Quoting: x_wingThis was fast. Nevertheless, they should start working on page similar to winedb. Right know I feel like the game test result/workarounds are quite dispersed on the web/forums. There is a lot of people testing lots of things but much of the knowledge gets lost in the immensity of the web :(Found that link that I like very much (good search tool), through Forbes:

Edit: Also, I think it might be insulting for those that work hard, trying to make a game work with Wine+DXVK and all that stuff, to be amalagamated with the lazy of us (I'm one of them) that use SteamPlay. :D

Quoting: WorMzyI don't think having a steam-dedicated question is a good idea. Better merging it with the existing wine question, changing the wording so it's clear that steam-play and wine are, for the purpose of the survey, the same thing. That way, if (for example) gog start wrapping games in wine (do they do this already?), there won't be an argument for adding another "do you use..." question.Thing is, you might get an irrelevant sample if 90% of steam users use SteamPlay (which shouldn't be surprising though). It will send a completely wrong portrait of the wine (as in not SteamPlay) overall usage and make the question pointless. But who knows, maybe not.
Basically, I think it's better to have one question regarding wine-based play, than potentially dozens.

Edit: My proposition:
Do you use:
[check box] Wine
[check box] SteamPlay
[check box] Both
[check box] None
This way, you will be able to compile the results of each answers. This said I like Ehvis' proposition about the usage frequency, but it might make things complicated with my proposition and I'm not the one who's programming the survey, so... :)
Edit 2: You might also decide that SteamPlay is a Steam feature that should not appear in the survey (just like BPM desktop doesn't appear in the DE question) and keep the Wine questions for Wine only. Still I would modify it with Ehvis' frequency proposition.

Quoting: liamdaweOh! Sorry! My bad! Missed the last line! I was reading diagonnally. Doh! :DQuoting: MohandevirCould it be relevant to add something about Proton in the survey? Or is Wine considered the same? Just a question. That's what we're asking:
We are looking to adjust the Wine question and add in a Steam Play/Proton question - opinions welcome on that.;)

Feral Interactive are teasing a brand new native Linux port

Quoting: m0nt3In fact I personnally expect to see a port of Shadow of the Tomb Raider because of the previous two games that already got ported. A day-one linux release, like what happened with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, would be awesome, but one may dream and I totally don't know how it could relate to the clues...Quoting: MohandevirI do not think, historically, games that appear under the soon section of the feral radar are 8-10 months out. Since F1 2018 is likely an easy port because of F1 2017 and it was on the radar before steam play was officially announced, therefore feral stuck with their radar plans. We shall see how feral handles things going forward, I do believe they need to be as transparent as possible in order to collect money from ports, instead of steam play. They have used wine as a reason for not porting older games before. We shall see. Also, feral has not put a game out on the radar that was not out for Windows. So F1 2018 and less likely shadow of war. That said, I really would prefer shadow of war.Quoting: m0nt3But with Proton, I would advertise my games as early as possible, if I were Feral... We are talking 8-10 months from now... It's not that far.Quoting: MblackwellWhy wouldn't it be Total War: Three Kingdoms?Because it is not scheduled for release until sometime in Spring 2019 according to steam.
Edit: This said... Working with Fire and Steel from China Crisis is considered New wave / Post Punk music... Just saying... :)
Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Personnally I would just ban those that leave bad evaluations because of Proton.. Ok, might give a warning or two, but if it becomes viral... I may be a little too extreme... Still, Valve made it crystal clear that SteamPlay is on them, not on the devs.
Edit: And if someone leaves a bad review on a title because he decided to turn on SteamPlay on all titles... What is he thinking about?! He deserves to be banned!
This said, what I hope for is that it will convince the devs that are on the fence about supporting Linux to do it, because of Proton. But you cannot force it. That would be doing like Microsoft often does and shoot yourself in the foot... And since Steam is not a monopoly like Windows is...

Quoting: Guest... And potentially make Valve wihtdraw SteamPlay completely.Quoting: WendigoValve did a really clever move here to force game developers into cross platform development. Publishers will now have to make sure that their games run on all platforms Steam supports, no matter if they intend it to run there or not since the games were made available everywhere. Even though players get a notice when starting a game via proton I guess quite a few will still down vote a game that doesn't run on Linux or OSX, so the Publishers have 3 choices:If you think this is going to force publishers to support Linux, you are delusional. If you start leaving shitty reviews because stuff doesnt run well on Proton... the end result will be publishers will loudly complain to Valve about it, and force them to blacklist their game from Proton.
1) Do nothing and get a bad rating that affects their future sales of the game.
2) Make sure their game runs with Proton on all operating systems that Steam supports and hope that a future change in Proton doesn't break the game.
3) Do a proper cross platform port or develop future games with cross platform in mind and have control over the game's performance on Linux and OSX.
I guess the third option is the best choice.
