Quoting: vskyeAwesome news, since I bought this game already.., anticipating a Linux release. It's rated as Platinum on ProtonDB as is btw.
I'm not going to tell other people how to spend their money.

Buying on Linux and playing through Proton counts as a Linux sale, which is good, and shows that there's a market of Linux gamers. Sales on Linux after they've released a Linux version show that it's profitable to support Linux. If they'll get the sale anyway, without providing any support, then there's less incentive for them to give that support. It's the support costs that scare devs, and they'd really like to know that they're going to get their money back.

Just something to think about.
What's sad about this title is that it went through an Epic exclusivity deal (not going to go any further than that) and then, a year later, we got it on Steam (Windows only). It's been over 9 months since the release on Steam... All in all, the game has been available for a little less than 2 years and still nothing about the Linux version... I really wanted to wait for it, but I began to think that 4A had probably given up on it. So, what was I suppose to do? Now I know that I was probably wrong (the Linux version is not out yet and there is no firm date either), but at that moment, I tought the choice was to wait for a port that may never happen or buy it and play it with Proton...

I understand the stakes, but all that stuff about Proton vs Natives is giving me headaches in cases like this...

Couldn't wait for it (I was beginning to think that it might never happen)... So, I completed two runs with proton. It was a flawless experience. Awesome game!

Quoting: ShmerlOh, and by the way. Debian testing has kernel 5.9, Mesa 20.2.2 and llvm 11. So you basically don't need to compile anything if I understand correctly :) That's better for day 1 than RDNA 1 (Navi 1) release.

Unless you just want to benefit from even newer support in upstream versions, then it's compiling time anyway :)
From what I heard from another user, couldn't Debian testing be considered a rolling release? Might give it a shot, eventually.

Ok... Single screen doesn't mean single player... Must be similar to Blaze Rush, in that aspect, then. Could be a fun game to play with my kids.

Started to date an old friend of mine again... World of Tanks. I keep having an on and off relationship with this game.

With Lutris and Proton 5.13 (instead of the supplied Lutris preset) it rocks!

Linux 5.11 to see better support for ASUS gaming laptop keyboards

I can't tell for other brands, but I'm in charge of configuring MSI portable workstations and laptops for my engineering firm. From my personnal experience, the ootb Linux support (Pop_OS!) is pretty great with MSI. Haven't got any major problems yet (ex: unsupported wifi), shortcut keys are working and I've tried many different versions of these MSI laptops. The only issue was with RGB Steelseries keyboard software but the msi-keyboard-gui tool is doing a decent job:

Hope it helps.

Edit 1: If I have tested these laptops, it was out of curiosity, not for my job which requires Windows. :)

Edit 2: Right now, there is a GL65-Leopard sitting on my desk fully configured with Pop_OS!. Not much to say about it. Before that, I had a GF65-Thin which I used to make my run of Metro:Exodus... Terrible experience. I don't recommend this laptop. Performances are great, but with RTX on, this thing becomes a hot furnace and the fan sounds like a whistle... 25' appart, my wife was complaining about the sound and I was barely able to hold my hand on the keyboard.

Edit 3: If you want to do serious gaming, I would consider a 17" laptop. It might just be coincidence, but I witnessed that the noise level is lower and they tend to generate less heat... Size of the case that gives them more breathing room/venting capabilities/better cooling solutions? Just my personal experience, no actual facts.

I had the luck of testing Sager laptops too (excellent laptops), which used to be the basis for many System76 products:

Quoting: MohandevirWhat's the bottom line of all this Lunix? What are you trying to convince us?
Feels like this discussion as lasted way too long.

You got your opinion, fine... Stick to it. Your point of view is your own and has as much value as any other from anyone here. It's all biased in some way by our own personnal experiences that differs from one person to another...

Do you want to have an open discussion or you just want to show us all that you are right? At this point, it's beginning to look like trolling.

Please, be on your way, there is nothing to see...
You're overthinking it, I just wanted to warn people to carefully evaluate features because if they don't do that they can get burned and then a few months later they'll start to rant how they'll never buy anything from $gpu-company again. And features aren't going to develop themselves just because you buy another product. Nothing special, but it became political. All concerns are valid, the point is to be aware of them.
Agreed. And when you say "$gpu-company" we can add "from chipset to manufacturer". Not all AMD or Nvidia GPUs are born equal (MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, Sapphire, Power Color, etc...) Making the difference between a manufacturer's bad "QA decision" and a chipset flaw is also important. Been there a couple of times.

Quoting: GuestEven something so simple as: how much power do they draw when idle, what kind of heat do they generate, what noise is produced from the fans running. Power consumption is actually another very important metric of mine, and I don't go out buying the latest & greatest for that reason. I wait a bit to see what comes out that might not use more electricity than my entire current system on full load. Bills to pay and all that.
This! Noise and power draw. On purpose, I never put more than a 500w PSU in my rigs and never overclock. Personnal choice, for similar reasons as yours. Above that, it's too pricy, imo. I believe that RTX will gain mass adoption when it will meet these requirements, also. Even on PS5/Xbox Series X, it's not all games that will make use of RTX.

"Among Us and Fall Guy with RTX!" Like caviar in Kraft dinner!
