AMD reveal RDNA 2 with Radeon RX 6900 XT, Radeon RX 6800 XT, Radeon RX 6800

Nice! The RX6800xt should be head to head with the RTX3080, 20W less and no 12-pins connector.

Good job AMD!

Keeping an eye on which one will be the new RX5600xt iteration to replace my super noisy/furnace hot GTX 1660 Super (Asus Phoenix single fan) that I will probably use in a dedicated streaming server for my kids, in my well vented Cooler master HAF-XB case, hidden in my "server room". Let them beat it to death! :)

SteamOS-like Linux distribution GamerOS has a new release, adds in Epic Game Store support

About the name, there is huge thread on discord about the dev asking feedback and suggestions for names, but and actually it's really difficult to find a good one. Most are taken by other gaming or semi-gaming related websites / products, or focus on a non-core feature of the OS.

No good one has been found yet (or at least when I looked at it 1-2 months ago)

I always find it easier to remember names when they are not generic, so maybe they should just pick up something that is completely removed from gaming.
Maybe it could be a new label (like Nintendo, Playstation or Xbox), that defines an open source, store agnostic, pc gaming console?

At this moment, SteamOS-Compositor is the easy go to as a basis for this use-case, but who knows what the futur holds? GamerOS could come to integrate Gamehub, GoG Galaxy and/or Lutris, at some point, into a unified, controller friendly interface. Who knows, some kind of Android like OS, based on Gamescope?

Just brainstorming here... Probably not going to happen.

Quoting: mao_dze_dunAh, now we're talking. I know purists will be thoroughly pissed, but I'm plenty happy to see something like this. Market is fragmented (which is actually a good thing IMO, but I know a lot will disagree), which is why I love GOG Galaxy 2.0 on Windows. But having a Linux distro for TV that supports both Steam and Epic - now that's something else entirely. Wasn't particularly interested in GamerOS (that name IS stupid), but now I'll keep a close eye. Good job. PC gaming in general has been needing a much better living room experience.
The problem is not fragmentation. I got nothing against that. The problem is Epic with it's garbage propaganda and dubious practices. It would be the last storefront I would support, personnally. Unfortunately, many seem to forget that we vote with our wallets, when it comes to Epic. Sure thing, they won't get a dime from me.

How does it goes? "Epic sees the mote in other's eye, but can't see the beam in it's own."

This said, good job for GamerOS! Awesome console OS!

NVIDIA adds Ampere support to their Vulkan Beta Driver with a new release

Just for the record...

I found my "tearing culprit", but it's still an issue for me... Allow flipping in the Nvidia driver's OpenGL settings. Thing is, I need to disable it if I want to use Steam Link streaming, else the client screen keeps on flickering every seconds or so and the experience is not fluid at all.

It's like if I needed a dedicated computer only for Streaming, with "Allow Flipping" turned off, so as not to meddle with my main desktop. Sad & bad, imo.

In fact, I'm not sure that Amazon cares that much about quality, for Luna. They'll put minimal efforts to satisfy it's Twitch fan base (Quality vs Twitch integration commodity) and then proceed to milk it.

But I think that what they call a wretched zombie is more like a baby that's learning to stand up & walk... But hey, many don't like kids, so...

Google announces another three games confirmed for Stadia

Stadia is getting close to 100 games now, which is actually quite surprising and there's a lot more confirmed to be on the way. By the time Amazon Luna opens up to people, Stadia will have quite a big library ready for the fight.
My toughts, exactly. As long as Luna is in closed beta, it gives some headroom to Stadia to put it all together. Amazon won't take as much time, but GeForce Now was considered beta for a couple of years.

If Amazon hit a technical issue on a technology they do not own... They could get caught in development limbo for some time.

I wonder, should we jump on the stadia train for now? I mean, they are the only one who kinda support us for now... Do you think that a strong stadia will encourage more devs to go for Linux ?
Stadia unquestionably has more positive repercussions for us, since it forces developers to adapt to Linux and Vulkan, whereas Luna makes that completely irrelevant. No matter what you think of streaming, Stadia is clearly a better deal for our ecosystem than Luna or GeForce Now.
That may be true in some cases but not true in a lot of other cases. It seems like the compatibility layers and shims to make Windows games run on Linux could be the biggest benefit. Destiny 2 was not written with Linux in mind as far as I know, but ran really well on Stadia. Is Google sharing that technology openly with the rest of Linux land? If not and it isn't GPL, then Google isn't doing much to move things forward at all in my opinion.
You right in saying that Stadia doesn't push Linux desktop adoption, but we benefit from Google's contribution to open source. They regularly push patches upstream that benefits to Linux desktop.

As for the specific case of Destiny 2, I may be wrong, but the problem is well known, if I remember correctly. It's related to Destiny's custom anti-cheat. It's been removed in the Stadia build and it's what causes a lot of problem on the desktop.

In fact, what is really sad, imo, it's that cloud gaming is an excellent opportunity to create new techs and get out of the DX-Windows paradigm. If these cloud providers could work together with open source techs, they could do some fascinating stuff that Microsoft alone can't do. But no, they prefer easy solutions with their limitations and perpetuate the vendor lock-ins (Amazon-Nvidia-Microsoft).

I wonder how they expect to solve an issue if it's related to the underlying OS? Cry in Microsoft's ear and wait for an approximate solution not custom tailored for their needs, instead of taking care of the issue themselves? Windows has unsolved issues that goes back to Windows XP and beyond... Oh well...

Minor stuff, but one of the problems that GeForce now has, with a Windows backhand, is the fact that you have to deal with the Windows desktop. It's pretty easy to minimize the Steam/Uplay/Epic window to the tray without being able to bring it back in full screen. You get the feeling that it lacks a K+M, when it happens. I don't know what it's going to be like on Luna, but that's my oberservation; It's not a fully integrated solution. You really have the feeling that you are dealing with a Windows desktop. On this aspect, Stadia is much more polished, even if still incomplete.

Imo, it feels like a badly integrated PC-Console hybrid that's even worse than what the Steam Machines were, concerning the critics it received, at the time...
