CRYENGINE 3.8.1 Adds Official OpenGL & Linux Support

Hopefully this will help changing "ports" to actual linux versions of the games.
Now that Unity3D, Unreal4, Source2, and Cryengine3 (to mention a few) have linux support, let's hope it will boost our platform.
I'm crossing fingers cause I guess the next 2 generations of game releases will show how this changes (engine supporting linux) will change things for us.
Peace!

I'm with Pecisk.
This is a long term move, don't mind the short term indicators.
Long term inverstors won't check their investments daily. That's the mindset IMO.
Let's be concerned about the indicators when important stuff is released (Steam Machines, Link, Vulkan, Hardware with linux preinstalled, etc.).

I'm really curious to see what Vulkan will make to DOTA2's performance. I can't wait.

IDK if they're going to release module creator like we had on NWN. Unfortunately I don't think so, but I hope we will.
In case they deliver such feature... that and the dynamic Dungeon Master Conduction will be very very interesting.
See the DM dynamic in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1frJpYU74jo).
I'm sceptic about it because this game will be more action focused.

Quoting: slaapliedjeSo... Neverwinter Nights 3?I'm a NWN fan myself.
Will this come with tools similar to the them so modules can be created (sounds like it), though the tools were never ported to Linux sadly.
Can I just say IT IS ABOUT TIME!!

Let's be the better men here.
Plus let's remember what Valve has made for our community and as a company Valve will try take advantage of the investment.
Valve's branding will be critical to the SteamMachines sucess!

Quoting: BeamboomI'm totally fine with that. There's so many logos, brands and profiles swirling around in the Linux world, it's all good. It's what we are.Agreed man.

Yeah, I've heard the problem isn't the engine, but the server.
I have 7,0Mb/s. I live in Brazil and never payed attention to where the server was from.

It isn't a matter of how many player per match.
You may play a game with 8 player FFA and everything goes smooth.
The problem is related with unit population. The game engine can't handle the physics calculation of huge armies and so it starts lagging.
The more players there are faster this effect occurs.
But if you say so Liam I'll give it a new try asap. And check if it got fixed.

Guys I have this game and... I just can't recomend it.
Yeah the concept is awesome. Unfortunatly the product isn't.
Even if you get no errors (driver wise), the game just can't handle +20-30 min games.
IMO the whole point of a planetary RTS is to flood the screen with units, blow big nukes, etc.
If the game engine can't handle a large battle well the original concept gets hurt pretty badly.
In other words, even if you buy this game know that it will let you down.
It's embarassing how they can't even make tournaments cause whenever the match reaches 20-30 the players can't continue resulting in a tie...
