Frame of Mind developer ended up coding the game on Steam Deck for a year

This reminds me of that time I was in university and saw somebody using a Steam Deck running LibreOffice as their work computer. It made me feel slightly more normal since it meant I technically wasn't the only Linux user in the class.

Then again, outside of the Mac users I was the only one who wasn't using a portable gaming device...

Unity cancels the stupid Runtime Fee

In my eyes, they've already done the damage. I already wasn't big on the fact that Unity is a proprietary engine, but the runtime fee just made me feel questionable about running Unity games.

Well, if anything it's gotten more eyes on Godot. In fact, I'm learning Rust and Godot for hobbyist game development projects.

Retroid Pocket 5 and Retroid Pocket Mini will have Linux support

Yet another interesting looking gadget that I probably won't get because I already have a Steam Deck, a MiSTer, a PSP and a 3DS.

Still, I wouldn't mind having access to another non-Android ARM device, especially one that means I don't have to move a ton of cables around to use it. What's Armbian like?

Unfortunately, I'll have to pass because the RAM's soldered. I would've preferred if I could swap it out further down the line for future-proofing.

Endless launch Block Coding for Godot Engine, great for beginners

I can see this being very useful to beginners and especially educators, but I'm so used to Python that I'm just going to stick to GDScript.
I used to use Scratch a lot, and I always found the block-based interface to be more clunky than a text based one.

RISC-V Framework Laptop mainboard teased, plus open source releases of laptop shells

I'm honestly kind of iffy about Framework. I did buy a DIY kit off of them once but it wouldn't work and it took an entire month for them to return it. I probably won't bother with them again to be honest, which sucks because I really agree with their stated goal.

I am slightly interested in RISC-V at least - a laptop-style device could make a good development board. What's the performance and battery life like compared to ARM?

I am interested in an ARM laptop for battery life, but seeing how you can't upgrade the RAM on any of them I'm kind of iffy. 32GB of RAM will at least make it somewhat future proof. At the very least I'm interested to see a Linux-specific vendor have a shot at an ARM laptop.

It's likely going to be able to run all my Firefox tabs, Audacious and emulators just fine, but how well would it be able to handle x86_64 emulation? I'd probably try and build stuff manually to run on native ARM anyway, but I'd like to have the option to run x86_64 software for proprietary software and programs that just won't run on ARM.

Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers released after 5 years of development

I've been lurking forever and now have an excuse to post!

For anyone wanting to go native without needing to wait for the flatpak, I was able to compile the game on my Linux Mint laptop. Just remember to pass -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release otherwise it'll run far too slowly.

I'll check it on Nobara later and over the weekend I'll try it on my main Garuda machine.

UPDATE: There's now a Flatpak: https://flathub.org/apps/org.kartkrew.RingRacers [External Link]
