I think what happened is that Introversion made PA1, it was a hit they needed after some financially shaky years, and then it made a complete flop, so they sold PA off. Technically a choice, sure, but I'm fairly positive they were happy about sacrificing PA for a modicum of financial security.

That was also true with Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (although in that case number 2 had superior mechanics and writing), and Beamdog improved BG1 significantly by including class kits from BG2 in BG1 Enhanced Edition. If we wait 10+ years, maybe they will do a PoE1 Enhanced Edition and make our dream come true. :grin:

EE is how I play them these days (well, EET, because why not at that point?), but I have to interject that BG1EE has very little to do with the feel, design, and any sort balance BG1 tried to maintain. EE has no design to it, no cohesion, just stuff thrown in pretty much at random, because it seems cool - and that's not even going into the new story/character content (which I can't stand - it's awful in its own right as well as ill-fitting). In that way, I wouldn't call EE an improvement. I think that's probably why people call it inferior to BG2(EE), because when judging it on those terms it has to be, yeah.

I very much recommend playing vanilla, unmodded BG1 at least once - it recreates the feel of low-level, low stakes D&D adventuring impeccably. When judged on those terms even BG3 can't possibly match it (nor should it try - it's unashamedly maximalist, right down to the way things are in its source - 5e).

I much prefer just mapping the m+k controls instead of their controller setup for consoles if that's indeed what they're planning. It does the job, but it's not something I want or need on a device with touchpads.

It's been a while, but I think you can set the game to pause if certain conditions are met. Obviously not TB, but it's something.

Steam Deck support is likely just controller support and maybe interface scaling. Some games have presets specifically designed for that APU, but that's probably unnecessary here, hah.

Back when I played it what bothered me wasn't the controls, though - it was the forced writing. So bland and uninteresting (with a smidge of ESL) it was downright unreadable. Really made me miss the old Might & Magic flavour (just like the new MM and HoMM games).

These new sales are healthier for the industry (no flash sales, lower discounts etc) and for the buyers, but coupled with the fact that pretty much everything is on sale every 2 months anyway... it's much less of an event these days. Back in the olden days a major Steam sale also meant Steam was down for the first hour as people hammered the servers en masse - that's firmly in the past considering if I miss a sale come February it'll be discounted again, so it's a case of "meh, I'll get around to it." The discount might be deeper on a regular sale anyway.

Now, if anyone is new to Steam, and especially if they're used to consoles a Steam sale is pretty much like that cocaine scene from Scarface. Nice to read posts reminding me of that from time to time, hah.
