Quoting: PatolaMy INDEX ARRIVED! So I got into:
- Half-Life: Alyx. Can't play 15 minutes without extreme dizziness and retching.
- Borderlands 2 VR: Can't play 15 minutes without extreme dizziness and retching.
Haven't played Borderland 2 VR. Some say it's a poor adaption motion wise.

But I faced exactly the same with HL:A.

Which movement style do you use?
(...)
Continuous. I refuse to waste my hard-earned money with a slideshow, I want to see myself moving, dammit! :) I will adapt, eventually. I hope.
I feel you. Same intentions here.
Being sceptical in the beginning, teleportion doesn't take the fun and immersion away for me at all, I have to say.

The way the game and world in HL:A is specifically crafted for VR, with the extreme slow pacing, makes this possible.

I guess it's different when playing a classical FPS, say HL2, with a VR mode.

This reminds me, I should try HL2's official VR mode. :)

Have fun with your VR kit!

I wanted to so hard to use the continuous motion like in classic FPS.
Yet, that killed me. Almost had to puke. In particular with going backwards. (OMG!) *
However, going to teleportation I can now play for more than an hour without issues
and motion sickness.
It's still a bit stressing as I'm wearing glasses that I need and it's not optimal.
Thinking about getting special lenses, but that's a different story.

(*) Btw, I don't own DOOM VFR, but AFAIK it doesn't feature going backward at all.
Some people complained hard in the Steam comments. They souldn't it's for the best. XD

Valve drops support for SteamVR on macOS to focus on Linux & Windows
2 May 2020 at 10:49 am UTC Likes: 1

I hope nobody is happy about a different platform gets support (partially) cut.

Yet, what I like about that news is that Valve being clear about ending support
instead of letting it die silently and communicating it.

Should this be the fate of Steam for Linux in the future (I wouldn't rule it out),
I hope they'll communicate it that clearly as well.

It appears that Valve are preparing Half-Life: Alyx for Linux

Quoting: EikeA game magazine wrote its probably the last chance for PC VR. If exclusives are selling systems, what bigger franchise could there be on PC than HL? And it seems it did take off...
I will take a look into buying A VR system though I didn't even play any HL before (for more than an hour).
I don't plan to betray the movement, though. I don't have a Windows installation and I will not abide by their EULA. I will use it under Linux only. No compromises.
Well, if you don't have a Windows installation,
then this out of question anyhow.

But "betray"?
If you really love the HL universe and want to enjoy this next great thing in the best possible way,
you're betraying yourself, playing it with a half-arsed solution like a compat layer.

Will definitely give it a try once the Linux build is out.
But Proton? No way, Valve. Not for this game.

That's good to hear.

I only played it on Windows.
Runs smooth as butter there on a 5700 XT with an Index @ 120 Hz.
(Haven't tried 144 Hz yet)

This is an outstanding experience.
The immersion is out of this world.

So is the detail of the environment.
It's truly amazing!

My pacing is very, very slow.
And it is meant to be like that.

Quoting: lordgaultCareful if you're still interested in this game. Here's a recent comment from its developer
I know nothing about linux, I only know that everyone says it works perfect with Proton and also runs much smoother.

That's the big negative side effect of Proton.

Usually devs don't openly communicate that like this one does.
For obvious reason ... to avoid shit storms, etc.
But we can safely assume this is and will become an even bigger thing.

You can build you own bundle of Codemasters racing games over on Humble Bundle
31 Mar 2020 at 11:36 am UTC

Anyone knows if one of those Racing games come with an in-build VR mode?
If so, is it worth it?

Thanks. :)
