Is this targeting dedicated RT hardware or generic compute resources?

3dSen NES emulator gives classics some 3D depth and it's pretty awesome

Quoting: GuestProbably i'm over simplifying things, but basically it takes some layers, extrudes them and maps the same texture on the extruded part.
I'm certainly missing a ton of work/specific game quirks here :)
I agree, game specific stuff must be present.
Take the pipes in the video.
To accomplish this in a generic way,
the program would require the notion of
this object being a pipe and not just extrude it.
Also the placement of objects a different (fitting) z position
hints a lot of hand-tuned game-specific stuff.

Anyway. This is great and the list features Mega Man 1-3.
I'm in!

Btw, hope they'll get Castlevania 3 supported soon.
The Japanese version hacked with English text.
It featured a separated superior sound chip on the cartridge
(which wasn't technical possible on the US/EU NES).

Just listen to it.

Quoting: 1xokI wonder if this is really the 20-year-old source engine.
Half-Life 2 came out in 2004, so that would be 16 years. Since then the Source Engine has received several updates, including to 2.0. Although I don't know if this uses 2.0.
Nope. There is no Source 2 SDK available and still won't for at least quite some time.

What I frequently hear is that Source is a total mess code-wise compared to the other big engines.
And this shows in the documentation. Maybe Valve cannot force themselves to bring it in good shape for a SDK release. Who knows.

Update: The Half-Life Alyx SteamVR Home environments are getting fixed linux support with the next SteamVR beta release: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamVR-for-Linux/issues/304#issuecomment-595790309 [External Link]
Hmm, that's promising.
Maybe we'll see Alyx get an unannounced beta release on Linux too?

Crap communication nevertheless, though.

Quoting: EhvisLooks like they've been so busy cleaning up SteamVR before the HL:Alyx release, that they didn't do anything for Linux this time.
Then again, they said more than a month ago that HL:Alyx is basically done and in an extremely good shape (which has to include SteamVR obviously).
Doesn't sound like crunch-time panic to me. :)

That's why I had some hope, they could find the time to wire up Linux (and Mac).
But I guess that is sadly out of question now.

Thanks for the comment on HL:Alyx, Liam.

Very appreciated.

I have to admit, I'm very disappointed by the silence of Valve concerning this.
Why not communicating that they probably work on it and it's a technical thing for now.
Or if they really put the focus on the Windows release - why not telling *us* that?

It'd be sad but I can ofc respect that.

Quoting: Liam DaweUpdate: Phoronix removed the article, and placed up an apology.
Feral considered (or took) legal action?
After all this kind of news can seriously affect your business.

I've never seen Phoronix taking down a news and apologizing before.

Good news then. :)

It’s a shame Michael Larabel didn't contact us before publishing this piece, we would have been happy to set him straight.
Surprise, surprise.

Proton/Steamplay. *Hooray* \o/

It's not like that at least some people assumed this will affect Feral.
Going for Switch is a good business decision.
Hopefully, it's not too late for them.

I feel for the employees and the uncomfortable time they're going through. :/
