Hints appear of Valve making a handheld Steam "SteamPal" Neptune console

I hope / guess it will take some hints from the Switch and be both a handheld and have a docking station. They might also allow connecting a VR headset, but for that to work well they probably first need to roll out inside-out tracking in the SteamVR ecosystem. Although a smart combination of a VR base station with the dock might do the trick.

Edit: the docking station could also have a stand-alone mode as a Steamlink.

Godot Engine needs more funding for post-4.0 development

While if would be of course great if they could continue funding all their current developers, this seems to be a typical case of having grown too quickly due to external sponsors. The smart thing is IMHO to scale back when this external funding runs out, as trying to somehow keep up will just lead to them start making compromises and enter into questionable deals to get more funding.

Quoting: Sojiro84Looks good, but the weapon needs more swaying.

Right now the gameplay felt fast but the weapon animation felt like slowmotion compared to the speed he was moving.

Felt disconnected.
Looks intentional to me, like some homage to N64's Golden Eye or so.

VR is absolutely insane, I am officially a convert and it works mostly great on Linux

Quoting: denyasisThanks for the article. I'm glad you like it so much!

Might sound dumb, but since this is hardware, does it "just work" in Linux for any VR game, or is it Steam exclusive? (Ie, will work on non steam games or with out steam at all)?
Well, basically there are no VR games for the Linux desktop outside of Steam. But yes, right now the SteamVR headsets require Steam to run even for software launched outside of Steam itself.

There is semi-functional work ongoing to make it possible to use HTC Vive and Occulus headsets without SteamVR via the OpenHMD and related projects though.

Quoting: chrisqLike some people above, I'm not interested in VR for flailing around in the room.
I'm very interested in using it for any kind of car, airplane, spaceship or similar which has static location or cockpit you sit in though. Preferably with a proper wheel or hotas setup.

Any experiences with VR in those sort of games?
There are some good flight sims and racers, but the lack of controller tracking (and visibility of controllers in game) kinda leaves it as a half-baked experience for me. Same for those games like Subnautica that support VR but only with a normal controller.

The rich interactions with the environment and the gun-play etc. really is more than half the deal with HL:Alyx and you just can't get that with a normal controller.

Maybe if you have a really fully integrated racing chair where the wheel etc. really always is where you expect it even without seeing it...

It actually runs fine in medium settings on a mobile Geforce 970m @ 1920x1080. No idea why you would think you need a 3080? Maybe at 4K?

Uh, that looks seriously cool for an GZDoom game. Although the enemies might be nicer as 3d models...

Does anyone know if these new FANATEC drivers work with other generic PS3/PS4 wheels as well? I would guess the PS interface should be more or less the same?

Edit: Ah, it looks like those have a special "PC-mode". Hmm... my PS4 type wheel does some what work, but it would be nice to have rumble support and some games seem to misunderstand it as a normal PS gamepad.
