Epic Games' Tim Sweeney talks Linux and gaming some more, says Linux is "great"

Quoting: Purple Library GuyYou know, I didn't even read the article.
Yeah, you are right.
Quoting: Purple Library GuyYou do realize that the main reason people don't like exclusives is about their impact on consumers, not developers, right? So developers not being coerced has nothing to do with whether Sweeney is evil. Completely off topic.
Off topic??? This Sweeney-Bashing started from the day Valve announced that Metro: Exodus goes "exclusive" to EGS - my argument. From this day on lots of gamers where angry. This is understandable but honestly does not give anybody the right to give him names. He is still a business man.
And now people are bashing against Sweeney in this article/post.
This article is in no way negative - it tells only "POSITIVE" things about Sweeney.
Look... he said (wrote) that Linux is great!
Next question should be...
Cool, Mr. Sweeny. So Linux client is CONFIRMED;). When will the launch happen? Because of the lack of functions in EGS this should be doable THIS year, right?.
... instead of bashing.
Who is now off topic??????
Quoting: MalMan... he's a public person releasing public statements
No - I don't share your opinion. He is a "private" person doing "public" statements.

Having "a bad fur day" is one thing, bashing people "publicly" another.
I understand your anger - but it does not help Linux to grow market share.

Again some people here are bashing against someone they DON'T KNOW.
Is Tim Sweeney someones uncle etc. here??? I don't think so.

Even his tweets might not be from himself.

People always tend (ME included) to interpret things into something that wasn't said.
I mean... when someone says his favourite color is PINK, it does not immediately mean he/she is gay.
It "might" be so, but you "really" don't know.

Yes, Tim Sweeney made "exclusive" deals with developers/publishers and what now? Did he force them to do it? NO. So, is he evil? No.

Saying bullshit about someone you don't know because it does't make you comfortable is a waste of time and leads only to another game client which will never be released for Linux - thank you.

Instead we should at least try to convince people to support us and not whinge around.

No Man's Sky runs very nicely on Linux with Steam Play, huge online feature update and VR support coming

I love posts about SteamPlay!
Because there was no single title over 6 months released on Linux I had interest.

I also think that googles Stadia will be successfull - they have the money, the resources and manpower. Valve will get hard times soon.

Should google be successful NO one will need a gaming rig anymore... you simply buy a cool and big TV and their "Stadia" client comes preinstalled!!!
This is the future and as long as I KNOW that all this runs on Linux (and Debian) makes me feel happy/comfortable.

These are my 5 cents.

The war of the PC stores is getting ugly, as Metro Exodus becomes a timed Epic Store exclusive

Quoting: NeverthelessEpic analysed Steam well. Maybe that's why Valve removed Steamspy's foundation lately.
Epic managed to make Valve look naive and greedy, they speak of openness and fairness, but their methods are quite the opposite.
I cannot remember reading that Valve removed SteamSpy - i think they still want to improve it.
But yes - I think also that taking 30% is way TOO MUCH.

Quoting: ShmerlI can't say I'm a big fan. They put some of their games on GOG DRM-free, but they didn't make a good effort to make their Linux version work well, so GOG didn't even accept it.
This is strange... I played both (MLL and M2033) on my Intel IRIS Pro (no nvidia - no amd) and they ran just fine - but - with steam version.

Seems there are BIG FANS (you, danniello and me) here - very sad for us.

I really feel betrayed - bought Metro Last Light years ago knowing it had a lightning bug with mesa and solved it.

This game is (was) 1st on my whislist.

Quoting: johndoe1. Metro is made by russian developers.
Not true. 4A Games is made by Ukrainian people that had to migrate businesses to Malta, because Russia invaded east part of Ukraine...
Thanks for clarification.

Oh boy, I think Deep Silver ruined Metro franchise with THIS decision.

1. Metro is made by russian developers.
2. Russian fans (beside all others) will now be VERY pissed.
3. Russian hackers will crack Metro Exodus within a few days.
4. MOST (not us - I hope) pissed people won't buy this game and download the (offline, epic free) crack.
5. Metro Exodus will sell badly.
6. All Metro developers will lose their jobs.
7. This is the end of Metro franchise - sad I loved the series.

IMO -THIS IS THE MOST STUPID PUBLISHER DECISION I EVER READ ABOUT.

@Deep Silver: Rethink, there is still time for a turn!

Quoting: johndoeAnd to be honest I think that a Linux user should be able/learn to compile a newer Xorg server - it's really easy.
Yeah, some of us are in it to use our computer, not fiddle with it.
Agreed (sorry for beeing late).
But having the choice to alter the situation is worth it - at least for me.

@m2mg2
This is real sad, maybe put a little more pressure and point to the fact how old this issue is. That's what I occasionally do on bug trackers - it mostly helps.

Sci-fi single-player survival game Planet Nomads is currently pretty broken on Linux

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoAnd this is why the Steam for Linux client should allow Us to choose between run the native version and run the windows version via Proton.
THIS.
I don't know how you guys think about that, but more and more "native" linux games "reveal" to be broken (proton issue #5638) because they are not handled with the same priorty as the windows ones.
We pay for "native" support and get a bucket of s**t.
I really don't know how I should think about this:(
