KDE Plasma 6.2 adding a pop-up for donations, plus they want to make a next-generation KDE OS

Doesn't the welcome screen for every new Plasma version mention donations and such? I don't think the "if you're not a follower of those [...]" bit is being genuine here.

What have you been enjoying the most on Steam Deck recently?
Been enjoying Chrono Trigger (SNES), not an RPG guy at all but I really like this game so far.

Also playing ZZZ over on the desktop side these days, I just got an invite for Deadlock so I might try it though I don't really care for multiplayer games at the moment.

Battlefield 1 gets EA anticheat in September - will be left broken on Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: CatKillerThat was such a terrible solution. The proper response to "Microsoft's AV gets special access to the kernel that other AVs don't" isn't "everyone gets to futz with the kernel," it's "Microsoft's AV doesn't get to futz with the kernel, either."
And you know Microsoft won't just give that up, so we're back to square one here. So frustrating.

Quoting: enigmaxg2I guess that won't happen anytime soon (unless something EXTREMELY BAD happens
Millions of PC's going offline wasn't bad enough? I think the logic many of us are having here is that if Microsoft is successful at kicking those AV vendors out of the kernel, it should have a dominos effect and hit the kernel level anti cheat mob too. If a cybersecurity firm specifically specialising in preventing what happened on July 19 fucked up, there's no reason to believe the anticheat makers won't make the same mistake in the future.

Quoting: MohandevirIf Microsoft goes forward with this idea, all kernel level anticheats might become a thing of the past.
Unfortunately, it looks like this will go down the same path as when it happened years ago, where third party kernel rootkit authors will rightfully point out that Microsoft has an advantage if it kicks all other AV software off the kernel but its own.

Unless there's been developments on this that I missed?

Proton 9.0-3 now in testing to bring more game compatibility to Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: TactikalKittyHonest Question: Why would you not use anything other than the Proton Experimental? Is there any real world use case that I would want to use the stable or and older proton version vs the up to date Experimental?
I'm gonna say this as someone who actually ran Proton Experimental for months (and still do for certain games since they only work with them), it mostly won't matter, either Experimental will run that one game that Stable can't, or it'll be the same. But to make it clear: I play a wide range of games, old and recent, and I never had an issue due to a "regression" in Experimental.

I know this is all taboo talk, but this was just to honestly answer your question, based on actual real life experience.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 broke on Linux / Steam Deck, here's the quick fix for now

Quoting: RevenantDakIf a game breaks, because of an update (eg. EA App), THEN you try the latest version. If that doesn't work, then you try Experimental or, if available, Hotfix.
For me, the opposite happens here, EA App doesn't work UNLESS I use Proton Experimental, at least that was the case 2 months ago across several days when I had to reinstall the damn launcher a dozen times before I figured this out, I don't want to "test" if the launcher now works with the regular Proton because I'm really done with troubleshooting that specific issue, it still works under Experimental, I don't care what I "should" and "shouldn't" do here, no offense.

I selected regular Proton as default for Steam now to make you all happy, it's probably no different and all games would work on either version, but for EA games I'm sticking with Experimental.
