Steam / Steam Deck Beta update brings improvements for Startup Animations, Steam Input and more
7 Jan 2025 at 1:26 pm UTC

Just installed SteamOS on my sofa PC last weekend via Steam Deck recovery image.
You mean Steam Deck Recovery Image can be used to install vanilla SteamOS on a regular PC? I think I tried that once, and it didn't boot, so I just assumed that the system is heavily tailored for the Deck's hardware.

Steam Game Recording has officially launched

I used to use ShadowPlay back when I was using an NVidia GPU, and from what I saw, this looks more feature rich, but also more confusing. Can somebody please ELI5 to me how to:
1) Save last N secs/mins into a video file with a single button press/combo?
2) Manually start and stop a recording, with subsequent autosaving it into a video file?

Does it finally allow the screen to turn off while downloading games? Something that should've been there from day one for OLED models, if you ask me.

Valve still waiting on a 'generational leap' for Steam Deck 2 - but it's coming

What I really like about Deck and what competition doesn't seem to get is the solid hardware base. The game developers only have one device to optimize their games for instead of countless Ultra Turbo Deluxe revisions. About the only thing I like about consoles over PC and what I liked about Apple before they too started releasing X Pro Max models every year, heavily fragmenting the hardware lineup.

F Nintendo. I assume it can still be installed from FlatHub via console, just like Citra and yuzu?

Hmmm... I wonder if it's in any way related to the fact that cheaters in Deadlock now turn into frogs since recent anticheat update.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered releases October 31 with the PlayStation Overlay

Curious if the PSN bypass mod will work with it. The original repo had been taken down by the author, but other people have reuploaded it since, hopefully they'll be able to update it if/when it breaks.

Valve heads to PAX Australia for the first time, maybe they'll finally get the Steam Deck

Quoting: CatKiller
Quoting: WMan22...Assuming it has the same control scheme as SD1, that is. I'm extremely worried that Valve is going to remove things because certain people think they don't need the touchpads and 4 grip triggers while I can't go back to not having those on a controller.
I don't think there's much risk of that. Valve did loads of ergonomics testing for the design of the Deck, and their objective is to comfortably control every PC game even when the game dev hasn't put in any controller support. They aren't going to be swayed from that approach by random ranters on Reddit, nor by other manufacturers just throwing a Microsoft layout and a Microsoft OS on their handheld and calling it a day.
I'm still mad at them for not keeping the clicky buttons at the end of the triggers travel they had on Steam Controller. Binding nitro and handbrake to them was amazing.

High chance they're not gonna work with eXtremeRate face clicky set. I mean, my Deck is fully stock, but somebody's gonna have to choose.
