Another Steam Client Beta is out, adds the ability to force Steam Play

Quoting: mylkawhat do you think? what would be the alternative?
WaaS*, that's what... plus soon-ish gaming will move to the cloud, so you will only rent access, and own nothing... though that could be said is true already with digital distribution and always on-line DRM (not only digital distribution), albeit without a periodic fee. So your "client" device won't matter if it's a PC, Chromebook, phone, tablet, Switch, XBOX or PSX.

*Windows as a Service. Plus, as ironic as it sounds, there are already projects and efforts to implement past MS APIs on top of modern Windows (Wine for Windows, if you will) in order to run older software... so...

Two sided blade, but I guess it is a good thing for those broken native ports (I'm looking at you Killing Floor! [on nVidia])

AMD have announced the AMD Radeon VII GPU and more at CES 2019

Quoting: edmondoActually Jim's predictions about Ryzen are quite accurate. He was quite clear in saying "announcing" and not "launching".

Seeing the 14 nm IO die and so "much" space under the Zen 2 chiplet, I could even imagine a second one chiplet with 8 cores in case AMD wants to do it.
My point, the models have not been announced. The performance is amazing, though.

I lked the Keynote, it was mentioned by the developer of The Division, though the open source tools AMD has put at the developer's disposal, and OpenGPU or some such. Hopefully, we will be getting same-day Linux support in time for Linux 5 and with both driver sets. Radeon VII does make me considering going Team Red, though the performance gain from my current rig is still a bit low in comparison, so I may wait for the future products. Ryzen 3, though, does look amazing. I was kind of hoping to see if Jim's predictions (from Adored TV) would be confirmed, sadly no. BUT to see an R3 sample at 8c16t (presumably the next R5, from the leaked docs) beat the i9 9900k at Cinebench, and the Epyc demo, really makes me want one!

Quoting: kuhpunktI'm curious what the 7 Hour War looked like.
At some point I thought they would make that into a movie or mini series of sorts. Still interesting.

Time, Mr Freeman?
I really hope they take theirs instead of releasing a half-backed HL3. Epistle 3 sounds amazing in my head. There is so much to explore, so many questions to answer.

If I have any wishes for the next HL, it would be to make it a bit grimmer, with no clear-cut good decisions, but rather more unintended consequences. Also, reinforce again the sentiment of being colonized by an overwhelming force, just like Oceania was.
I've read a reddit post on HL being an essay on colonization, and teleportation technology, and it made me dream a sequel even more. But a good one :)
Absolutely. Part of the appeal is precisely the ambiguity in many situations. I only hope The G Man character will not get out of hand, but again, only the authors know. I really wish they finally conclude the story arc portrayed in Ep. 2, and then move on to whatever they want (human colonization of Xen?) Whatever they do, I only hope it will have the degree of polish that shut my mouth back in 2004 with HL2, a game I was sure could not live up to the hype it generated... Lo and behold, not only did it live up to it, surpassed it and only instilled even MORE. Valve, please, shut my mouth again!

Or what they did with Portal... Masterpiece.

I certainly hope they will bring closure to the fans with Ep. 3 (ideally made in the same spirit as both predecesors, on the same engine) and maybe see if they are going to expand on the aftermath of the mess left by the Combine in another game. Only time will tell. Good to know Valve is back making games.

over 12000.... dropped linux

i just dont get it
In my experience, publishers with smaller audiences are more likely to seek additional buyers on other systems. If a game has 40,000 players, the publisher says, "Who needs Linux? We've got 40,000 players. Cancelling support will alienate Linux users? Meh, who cares? It's not worth the support headache." On the other hand if a game has 1,500 players, the publisher says, "Where else can we look for buyers? Will Linux and/or Mac support really cost us that much more?"
what you are saying is big companies dont want more money.
that makes no sense to me.
Still ActiVision/Vivendi(Blizzard), EA, Ubisoft, et al seem to not want more money... even though Square Enix has shown good faith examples.

When I found out this morning I was in awe. Not only for this critically acclaimed title for its own merits in regards to the game experience itself, not to mention the monster engine they built that smacks CPU cycles and its scale in terms of simulation and rendering behemoth. This game will not only mark a milestone for the genere (as it did when it was originally released) on Linux, but also it will be VERY interesting to see just how will it not only be a test for hardware, but highlight the core differences between OSes and the more intriguing aspect of the scheduler and thread management (already made apparent with other software suits ins regards to Win Vs Lin). I DO hope they will be able to deliver crossplatform multiplayer, that would be THE killer feature for sure.
