I guess I'll skip this until the performance and optimization patches kick in to lower resource waste, and maybe get it (if at all) at a Steam's sale for 80%+ off discount, regardless of how good the game is, or how popular it turns out to be.
And is not that my current system would struggle, these guys simply seem to market to a bubble and not to a big audience. It would seem as if the game is more a tech demo than a game, as such. Looks to be dev laziness not seeking optimization, throwing hardware at a performance issue with their code instead of fixing the code.

Why?
Why everybody and their cat are redoing stuff on UE5 of all engines, ditching perfectly good in-house engines; when did UE become the Windows of game engines?

Just installed them (Unreal Gold, UT99 & UT2K4) on my Steam Deck just for kicks. Man! The nostalgia as I saw Nali Castle and Liandri fly bys! Steam Input works wonders! Next goal: to attempt to run them natively, with the new OpenGL renderer (which, on the Deck, has text artifacts, like MSAA used to produce on bitmap text, in the menus).
I wonder if you could run an ad-hoc LAN hosted listening server with some other Deck users, a la Nintendo DS ad-hoc connections...

(In the context of gaming...) Alas, in the face of the imminent extintion of physical forms (media) for games (consoles being the last bastion), all electronic 'gaming works' are subject to these practices. A paradigm shift must occur if there is any hope to stop this from happening, and most likely, it will only happen if the gaming community also changes consumption habits of games... Campaigns like this may render the situation a tad more visible, but most likely will do little for shifting consumption habits.
At this point seems very unlikely that the industry at large would do anything in favor of the gamers, and indeed it would seem like the only plausible cause of action would be via legislation, and that may even prove difficult.
So yes, the only way to avoid dissapoitment is to avoid buying.

Quoting: slackSorry, I see it differently. It's one thing what you think you're buying and another thing what you're paying for. In my opinion, you can never buy a game because it will always be the property of its creator. In reality you are only paying for the legitimate right to use it, with permission of its creator. You cannot resell it, nor rent it, nor make any business with that right without the permission of the creator of the game. So the creator (let's assume that the creator is the owner of the rights), at any time he chooses, can stop supporting the game. While this holds true for electronic 'works' in general, what I really find irritating is that for all the media (written word, music, video, games, etc) the rights management and commertialization stems from the editorial tradition. In that (until very recently), creators have to put up with publishers to get their works known and distributed. For the longest time self publishing has been (and still is in most cases) simply way too expensive. And is in that paradigm that these mega corporations got to the position we currently are. I really, really despise the model and paradigm, alas I do reckon that it has been (and for many still is) the only way to distribute works.
It seems to me that if you know what you are paying for, the disappointment is less.

The message Valve sends with these actions, besides their commitment to the Deck as a platform, and Linux as the vehicle to consolidate it, is also their commitment to make any and every game as well supported as possible, which is much more than the likes of Epic or GoG are doing. So they are actually showing where that 30% revenue cut is going to.

That's great! Alas on my system any version newer than alpha 0.18 won't run anything (regardless of Flatpak or AppImage). I dumped most of my games using a supported BD Drive (and even jailbroke my PS3 to re-dump to disk and transfer via sftp, with the same results and lots of invested time).

But a single player experience has to stand on its own. And really good ones incite the player to return, and not only implememt 'yet another farming/chore game' that has you do the same over and over again in order to 'progress' your build (and make things 'easier'), rather than the interaction with the environment. One key aspect that, in my opinion, set the TES games appart (in that they tend to provide all those elements, and leave the player decide what to do, hell I know people that loads Skyrim only to 'visit' and relax).
I remeber back in those olden days SP games in pretty much all 'modern' genres (FPS, adventure, RPG, action, brawlers, strategy, and even mashup of all those, etc)
Whatever Valve has in store, I really hope it will be worth it.

Quoting: Mountain ManWhat does Valve have against single player?I'm not sure is only Valve... But seems it is much harder tondesign a good SP experience that a setting on which other players are as much part of the environment, and their interactions are the focal point (i. e. 'free the developrs of providing such content'), but that is only true to a certain extent and certain types of games (for instance, I am convinced that was the force behind most of the late 90s early 2k miriad of on-line shooters, where at most, interesting maps and arsenal were what differenciated most games [save some notable 'unique' mechanics in some, only to be copied/implemented a bit different by others]). In this regard, CS was not much different back in the day (and to my sore eyes, today). MOBAs are all pretty much the same, down to map design with some RPG elements (again oversimplifying matters, I know much thought has to go into balancing, imagining abilities, etc).
