GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier"

Having both support for "Galaxy" and (preferably) some measure of: "if GOG end up making use of Wine / Proton", that would be the proverbial "Game Changer" for me.

Up until now, I've largely ignored GoG, aside from buying games for "ScummVM" and a few older titles for DosBOX. The reason for that, is that their commitment to Linux (compared to Valve) has seemed "half-assed" at best and almost non-existing at worst.

This change, if it's realized, could mean that I actually start using GoG for new/modern games. A legitimate alternative to Steam.

Valve tweak Steam Community Awards to deal with point farming and "attention-grabbing content"

Quoting: TheSHEEEPShame, really.
Large amounts of clown awards were a good way to quickly notice idiotic postings without having to read them entirely.

The idea of "purely showing appreciation" sounds like coddling and participation trophy nonsense to me.
Only positive thoughts allowed, no critique please.
Not really my style.

I had no idea that points got transferred that way, though.
Then again, I assign no value to these points whatsoever as they are so plenty I don't think anyone could even spend them all.
Exactly! I used this as an indicator that a post was silly/nonsensical, which (in my experience) when I bothered to read such a post, it usually was. Now there will will be no clear indication, so you'll have to.....ignore all posts that doesn't have massive "thumbs up awards"?

Lol, not exactly an improvement.

Quoting: Beta VersionSwordhaven: Iron Conspiracy has just been released from early access and has a native Linux build.
Yeah, I bought this and a couple of hours in, I'm very happy with my purchase. Almost feels like I'm playing good old "Baldur's Gate" for the first time again.

The game also has the neat feature that lets you switch between Turn Based & RTwP with a button press, something I feel all games like this would benefit from.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered revealed, it's out now and Steam Deck Verified

I might buy this at some point when it's really cheap. To be completely honest, Skyrim was the first TES-game that I truly liked, from beginning to end.

All the others were titles that I loved for the first dozen of hours or so but the longer I played the more fed up with them I felt. I really can no longer remember what all of my gripes were (it's been too long) but I did feel disappointed with character progression, magic-system, side quests, quest rewards, npc:s, repetitive gameplay/quests etc. etc.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster arrives June 26

Very nice! Still I'm a little disappointed that they didn't make a remake like they did with the first game.

I greatly enjoyed their new version of System Shock, feeling that they found nearly the perfect balance between original style & gameplay yet with greatly improved visuals, new visual elements and QoL-enhancements.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II from Warhorse Studios confirmed playable on Steam Deck
30 Jan 2025 at 8:42 pm UTC

This is the first game (that wasn't a tiny indie-title) that I have gone ahead and pre-purchased in...many, many, many years.

I absolutely loved the first game and when Warhorse confirmed that they weren't going with "Denuvo", i simply felt compelled to buy without waiting.

New Arc Line is a promising new RPG about the conflict between Magic and Engineering

I really liked Arcanum as well back in the day. It did so many things right and I would have loved to see a sequel if only Troika had lasted.

This goes on the wishlist for sure but I'll probably wait a bit before buying.

Swordhaven: Iron Conspiracy is a party-based RPG from the devs of ATOM RPG now in Early Access

Atom RPG wasn't bad at all and this one looks even more interesting to me, so I'll probably buy it as a Christmas gift for myself. ;) I only wish it was a full release, rather than early access.

I am currently playing "Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord", which is pretty good but my no.1 crpg for 2024 is almost certain to be "SKALD: Against the Black Priory".

Simply amazing, how such a small production could rival many aaa-level rpgs in storytelling & atmosphere, with addictive gameplay to boot.

Next year..."KCD II" will most likely keep me occupied for February and (hopefully) a bit into March.

Best cheap Steam Deck / Linux games in the Steam Autumn Sale 2024

Quoting: FeistOnly game I have bought this far is "Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord" a remake of the classic rpg from 1981.

However, I have my eyes on "Robocop", "Stray", "Drova" and the remake of "Resident Evil 4" as well. Though I feel a bit unsure about the 3 first games and I would like to wait for Denuvo to be removed before buying RE4.
I played through Stray on my LCD Deck, it was playable at 30fps up to 40 in some sections. It's also easy to mod and NexusMods has lots of free custom cat models to download (I liked Espeon)
Thanks! It does seem charming, which is what made me a tad hesitant. I have bought a few games this year that I felt was more style/charm over substance. But the price now is comfortable enough that I think I'll go for it.
