Best cheap Steam Deck / Linux games in the Steam Autumn Sale 2024

Quoting: Anza
Quoting: FeistOnly game I have bought this far is "Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord" a remake of the classic rpg from 1981.

However, I have my eyes on "Robocop", "Stray", "Drova" and the remake of "Resident Evil 4" as well. Though I feel a bit unsure about the 3 first games and I would like to wait for Denuvo to be removed before buying RE4.
Robocop is good, though checkpoint system is awful. It could save bit more often, and make it even more clear when that happens. Now I guess best way is to check autosaves timestamp as save doesn't always happen when you think it does. Still, it seems to get tone of the movie about right, which doesn't happen that often.

Stray is sort of platform puzzle exploration experience with some bit frustrating action sequences. Though still, you can take nap and scratch things among other cat like behaviors. There's also some lore you find out if look around. So If you like sci-fi and cats, it's worth trying out.
Never cared for checkpoints either, though I suppose I've gotten used to them over the years. It's likely that these 2 games will be my holiday entertainment.

RPG 'Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness' is set to get a big DLC and free upgrade

I rather liked this game as well.

However, like mentioned above, the loading times were rather long and the gameworld felt a little "barebones" at times. Not quite enough detail & "personality" to the areas or unique items, interesting loot, hidden secrets, entertaining npc:s etc. etc.

All the little things that make a crpg a bit extra rewarding to play. Well, that's what I recall from it anyways.

I played through "Solasta: Crown of the Magister" at around roughly the same time and despite preffering the RTwP gameplay of BG:CoD over the TB gameplay of Solasta, I still enjoyed Solasta quite a bit more.

GOG's Halloween Sale is live with Days Gone now available

Quoting: lejimsterI wish they would make a Days Gone 2. Well worth buying especially at that price.
Agreed, this spring I played "Dying Light 2" and after that I decided to start with "Days Gone" since it had been sitting in my backlog for quite a long time.

I didn't have much foreknowledge of it, other than it being another zombie game and involving motorcycles...so I was shocked.

Shocked by just how incredibly much better it was than DL2, it had a more entertaining story, characters that were actually interesting, dialogue that I didn't just want to click past, environments that looked much nicer and just generally more fun gameplay.

In comparison, pretty much the only thing that I found DL2 to have going for it, was the parkour. Without that, Days Gone was just so much better in every way.

Can't believe they haven't made a sequel to this.

Proton Experimental gets DEATHLOOP working on Linux with AMD GPUs (update: NVIDIA too)

Sweeeeet!

I was just about to start messing around with a temporary dll-file replacement to adress the loading issue in "Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous" but now I can just switch over from the latest GE-proton that I was using.

Currently finishing my playthrough of "Expeditions: Viking", the announcement that "Expeditions: Rome" will be released this year made me remember that I hadn't finished this game yet.

Also playing the old fashioned point & click cyberpunk adventure "VirtuaVerse" and finally I just recently bought "Yakuza: Kiwami" on sale and have started playing that a little bit.

Proton Experimental begins work to allow Resident Evil Village to run on Linux

Super nice!

This year I've played through Resident Evil Remake as well as the remakes of Zero and 2. (thanks to GloriousEggroll) Leaving RE3 as the only game from the main series I haven't played yet.

However, given the poor reception that game has gotten I decided not to buy it until I could get it for 15 euro or less. So, by the time I finally buy it, Re:Village should be patched, fully working on linux as well as including some good dlc content. (fingers crossed)

David Rosen of Wolfire Games explains why they're taking on Valve in a lawsuit
7 May 2021 at 9:39 am UTC Likes: 6

"Rosen believes that Valve are "taking away gamers' freedom to choose how much extra they are willing to pay to use their platform" and that it's believed "this is part of why all competing stores have failed"."

I really don't know if this is actually a real and genuine issue or more of an imagined one.

For me, the fact that I have 95% of my games on steam and all the various steam services/steam benefits connected to all those games is pretty much a permanent "deal breaker" with any other option/alternative. Price has nothing to do with it. That feeling doesn't even factor in the great convinience of Proton as a linux gamer.

Lol, in a way it's kind of like the well known saying about real estate: "location, location, location". The same exact building or apartment can range in value from essentially worthless to almost priceless, all depending on where it's located.

Beamdog unleash the huge 2.6 update for Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale

It's great to see these updates coming. I only wish the sourcecode for "IWD II" hadn't been lost, since I remember loving that game as well back in the day. Frankly I would have preferred Beamdog to be developing BG3, partly because I was very pleased with their work on "Siege of Dragonspear" and partly because I would have wanted the series to stay true too it's RTwP-roots.

Quoting: AppelsinDon't forget Tyranny [External Link] :) An absolute gem, that seems to have flown completely under the radar of most. It's also from Obsidian, and I absolutely loved it. It has more of an "ancient Greece" feel than the usual "medieval europe", which really tickles my fancy.
Agreed! I loved Tyranny as well and thought it didn't get nearly the accolades it deserved. The magic system in particular was inventive & entertaining and the story itself felt really fresh. As far as my personal tastes were concerned, I enjoyed it more than either of the "Pillars" titles. (though they were certainly great as well)

I just finished playing through Deus Ex: Revision, which is the improved/massively modded version of the original "Deus Ex: GotY". That was a game that had been in my backlog for faaar too long.

Despite having played through "Deus Ex: Human Revolution", "Mankind Divided" and even "The Fall", I had never actually played all the way through the famous original in the series before. I had started to play it a couple of times during the years but it was always interrupted for some reason or other before I got very far.
