Saturday Mag: Linux gaming news odds and ends plus a look at a few things on sale

If you enjoy these weekly posts to roundup a few loose ends, do let me know so I will continue them.
Thank you, I do find them quite enjoyable. There's always a great deal happening, so all kinds of "summaries of recent events" as well as "roundups of things you might have missed" are much appreciated. :)

As for what I've been playing: I finished "Vigilantes" on friday and since then I've been playing a bit of "Stalker: SoC" and a bit of "Singularity" using Proton.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition levels up and arrives on GOG

Quoting: slaapliedje
Quoting: TheRiddickcharacter models need updating also, and increases to textures, I wish companies would go to that effort, would be awesome. Atm the enemies look a bit hilarious and hard to take serious :)
From what I understood, they did some initial tweaks and were planning on enhancing all the things as they go along.
True, from what I understand it will be a gradual process over time until the whole game eventually looks reasonably "Up to Date".

That is part of what's been keeping me away from playing it on steam. It feels like a shame to play through it again now, only to have the entire campaign look 10X better in 6-12 months of time. Right now, I'm eager to see what comes from this quote:

"New character and weapon models for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition are getting closer! As soon as we’re ready, we’ll be sure to share a few amazing screenshots!"

The recent Steam Play beta is now out for everyone, plus a minor beta update

Tried a few games with 3.7-8: "Gray Matter" and "Sleeping Dogs" (original edition) still won't start. "Fallout 3 GotY" still gives me blackscreen with a cursor. However, "Alan Wake" starts again, I don't think it has worked since one of the first Proton versions, it also has music in the main menu for the first time.

First-person adventure about sunken Russian sub KURSK to have a delayed Linux release

Felt very sceptical about this idea but I have to admit the video does look good. I assume that the objective is to escape the sub with military secrets before you-know-what happens.

Still, I always feel strange playing in an actual historical scenario. It's one thing if it's meant to be an alternate history like "Wolfenstein: The New Order" but otherwise I just wonder why they didn't simply make up a completly fictional scenario like "The Hunt for Red October" for example.

ATOM RPG has another large update expanding locations, new characters and more

Quoting: theghostFYI, planned release date is December 2018 / January 2019.
Thanks, that's good to know. I'm kind of regretting now that I already spent a dozen or so hours in the game. This is shaping up so nicely that I'll be sure to start a fresh game once it's released. I think this one will be a winner. ;)

Sunday Mag: Linux gaming news odds and ends and a quick look at what’s on sale

Jupiter Hell! I had forgotten about that game, wishlisting it at once.

As for what I've been playing it's been "Vigilantes" all the way. Originally, I intended to wait but then I decided to give "Pathfinder" some extra bug-fixing time, so after I finished "Tesla Effect" I dove right in.

Very nice and quite addictive, as you build up a team and fight crime in the big city. You develop your "lair" for various bonuses and homemade equipment and then go out on raids and surveilliance missions in your hunt for the "Big Bosses".

The Steam Play whitelist just had a large update including The Witness and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Very nice! Unfortunaty, there's not any title that I am keeping an eye out for yet. Still, I guess it's only a matter of time and there's no hurry at present for more games than I currently have lined up in my library.

Speaking of which..."SHADOW WARRIOR 2" is currently free on GOG, if you log in to your account there. I would have much prefered to have it on steam and test it out with Proton but it's still a very nice thing from GOG.

Cultist Simulator to get a DLC about showing some skin plus free updates

I actually feel a bit embarrased, that I haven´t bought this yet. Because while the theme of the game as well as the gameplay itself seems very interesting, the graphics look so very simple and rudimentary.

I´m not normally into graphics and I usually couldn´t give a damn about tesselation, shaders, bumpmapping and so on. However, that doesn´t mean that I don´t want *any* eyecandy at all, to have the graphics simply be utilitarian and absolutely nothing else.

Guess I am a bit superficial at heart. :(

Life is Strange 2 confirmed to be coming to Linux in 2019 from Feral Interactive

2019 sounds great to me, no messing about with single episodes and months in between each one. Also, there´s so much else going on this autumn that there´s zero risk of running out of things to play. :D

Turn-based tactical RPG 'Vigilantes' to leave Early Access on Thursday
1 Oct 2018 at 10:20 am UTC

I haven´t tried playing this since the early days of early access either. I´ll give it a go as soon as it´s released but then I think it´ll have to join the backlog, since I have at least 2 and maybe more titles that I want to play through first.

The concept does sound interesting though, a deadly (I assume) "Batman character" that fights in turnbased combat.
