Anthropic begin funding Blender as a Corporate Patron
29 Apr 2026 at 2:45 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: Talon1024The Blender Foundation is getting absolutely roasted for accepting this "donation", and rightfully so!

As an open source project, their ultimate goal should be to have a good feedback loop between their users and the developers. It even says, in enormous letters, on the front page of the Blender website:

It's about people.

Accepting this donation, from a company that represents everything wrong with the tech industry over the past 8 years, betrays that goal of having goodwill between the users and developers.

It would be wise for them to return the money, and deny any future donations from them, or any other company whose primary product is an AI or LLM.
the alternative is to let those "people" keep the money I'm more than happy with them taking it so long as they're not beholden to anything they say

The new Steam Controller releases May 4th
27 Apr 2026 at 11:04 pm UTC Likes: 2

Being a bit more expensive than "standard" controllers I can see since this controller clearly has lots more technology in it than anything else on the market, not to mention joysticks that won't drift after a couple of months, but console game controllers are borderline scams that I hold to a very low standard so I'd be lying if I said I was totally happy with this price point. Still, it's everything I want in a controller, so it's still a price I'll probably be willing to pay once I get the opportunity.

Luanti (formerly Minetest) v5.15.2 brings critical security updates

Quoting: RubyRose136Not specifically related to this article, but this may be a concern for you: Luanti is now being coded with AI [External Link] and its ContentDB allows AI-generated content [External Link] as well.
As much as I despise genAI, this kind of commit is how it should be used - security checking existing, well-written code for best practise

And tools like this existed for years before the 2022 genAI "boom", it was simply that the masses couldn't afford them, because they were Enterprise-level CI/CD DevOps tools.
correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't genai broadly based on technology we've had for decades? like I was under the impression the only meaningful difference between cleverbot and chatgpt is modern genai stuff uses an ungodly amount of data, and the reason that something like it wasn't done before is because it was impractical to get that amount of data legally and process it in a way that could be turned into a profitable venture (and looking at modern AI companies, it looks like neither of those issues were ever solved)
