What Valve would need to do to make a Steam Console a success

a lot of factors.
1)lack of an marketing campaing, how many times we saw the trailer of an game, announcing it is avaliable for playstation while also ignoring in the trailer that its also avaliable at steam or xbox? sony was the king of pretending that something was exclusive when it was not using this technique, all you need is to distribute in a few channnels your version of the ad, and prefentially exclusive rights for the advertisement in an region.
if valve wont pretend that something is exclusive, at least they should make sure that all game trailers feature the steamdeck/steamOS/new console logo.
2)exclusive games, just look at how xbox is struggling to sell, most people dont see a reason to get one if they can get the samething on other platforms+the platform exclusives, if they wont make games then at least they need an exclusive service like gamepass, or bundle the console with something like 400$ worth of games.
3)again lack of informing people that steamOS actually have more games than any console and have most of the big games that everyone want to play
4)an good hardware for an cheaper price, lets say , playstation 5 pro specs at ps5 base price.

Blocking Linux / Steam Deck in Apex Legends led to a 'meaningful reduction' in cheaters

I wonder if the meaningful reduction in cheating activity was actually because of their reduction in the playerbase in general...well, maybe they should shutdown their servers next time, no one can cheat if no one can play

i hope its just an error.

AMD reveals AMDGPU Composition Stack, a fork of Wayland's Weston compositor for advancing the Linux desktop

it may sound bad for the users, but being impartial often means not using 100% of neither hardware, so if the vendor want to provide biased solution...

To provide a middleware compositor which extracts the best out of AMD Display and Graphics HW (We don't mind being biased to AMDGPU HW)that is quite nice, i mean, either nvidia do something similiar or amd will get an performance benefit.
To host some of the AMD HW specific code, which can't be merged in weston mainline due to its bias towards AMD HW.
it may sound bad for the users, but being impartial often means not using 100% of neither hardware, so if the vendor want to provide biased solution...
To be the space where AMD specific in-house SW tools (performance tweakers, multimedia players, 3D games, profiling tools etc) can be saved in future.wait, amd develop games? they will ?

Google and The Linux Foundation team up for 'Supporters of Chromium-based Browsers'

the linux foundation initial goal was to fund linux, regardless of marketshare, it make sense to support other projects that are essential for linux (eg: git or some other components, low level stuff that dont fir the kernel but is deply integrated... like i dont know systemD...
but nowadays they are quite off topic, an game engine? an browser? if you donate money to then and have no idea/control where your money is going anymore.
firefox is not running the risk of becaming orphan and the linux foundation wont need to divert to much fund in theory in order to keep the browser competitive, so at least in theory not much money will be ...
i dont know the word for that

i suppose for the same reason you might want to support a desktop operating system that has a tiny market share.not the samething...

Lenovo Legion Go S with Valve's SteamOS is official, expected to launch in May

That's assuming Lenovo actually put any effort into pushing the SteamOS version... Which historically, hasn't been the case with third-party manufacturers.this time is different, they probably gonna distribute the windows version every location they can, and from one version to another, the only difference is the hardware and a little icon on the case, im sure the logistics of changing those details last minute arent so complicated, so if the steamOS sell more than they expected, they can repurpose some of the windows devices as steamOS instead and vice versa, this reduce the risk for both versions streaminglining the distribution channels.

this device selling well is the most important thing, since the steam deck launched.
if they sell well, more oems will ship steamOS and they will make more devices with steamOS, then linux will finally have a chance to grow.
other than that, then only with valve subsidizing hardware.
i doubt valve can compete using only their own cash, one of the reasons why microsoft is so strong is because they have rich partners like dell, hp, lenovo etc.
with more companies entering the market maybe they can sell (combined) as much as an switch does...
