Mundfish remove graphics options from Atomic Heart on Steam Deck (updated)

that sound like an stupid decision, but at least they can better debug or Q/A it with everybody running in the same settings.
if they are trying to write an more optimized code specifically for the deck, having people changing settings all the time may make it harder to know if the code you written harmed the performance in this scenario (number of enemies on screen, that part of the map, that angle, etc) or the slow down was due to something else.
later on they an add back more options for people who want to make some tradeoffs or fine tune it even more to try to squeeze more performance.

if the game was in "early access" or anything like that, i think the reception of this move wouldnt be so bad...
but being realistic here: they probably wont optimize their code and probably received an bag of cash from MS for doing stuff like that...

Quoting: PenglingA fellow GOL'er showed me this a couple of days ago: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/save-dollardollardollar-on-the-rog-ally-by-resetting-and-trading-in-your-steam-deck-gaming-handheld/ar-AA1b4Wka [External Link]

How convenient!
LOL half of me is worried that this marketing stunt can be effective, the other half cant stop laughing at how desperate microsoft is!
actually... i think im more into the laughing side.

"The Steam Deck is still quite popular and so a used Steam Deck 512GB SSD in good condition can be sold for $500 to $600 on average. Meanwhile, a 256GB Steam Deck in good condition tends to go for $400 to $450, and the 64GB Steam Deck is typically worth $350 to $400 if in good condition."
LOL they are implying you can sell it for almost as much money as you spend on a new one direct from valve!
if they truly believe that, then we can assume they are admiting that the value perception of the deck wasnt affected by the announcement of their own product.

and will be able to play Steam games as well as games on Nvidia GeForce Now, Game Pass, and more.
thos *** holes are still implying you cant use GFN on a steam deck.

Quoting: GuestNow with this lawsuit now - I don't see any connection. MS again releases games on Steam, MS does not have any Deck competitor, nor mobile gaming device. It is in the interest in MS that the Deck is a success as it means MS can sell more games to potential customers.

I think the time is over to think of MS as the pure evil in a company form.
then i think you should watch the rog ally presentation.
not only they have an device to compete with the deck (an partnership with the vendors of one) but they spread FUD and miss information there.

i mean, they implied you cant do your homework on steamOS... (they said you can do it on the ally because its running windows)
implied you cant use xcloud (despite the fact that they thenselves officially support it)
implied you cant use netflix.
implied that windows is more compatible (when we know its the opposite, games that are compatible with it not the other way arround)

not to mention: MS interest is keeping their OS monopoly as well as sell stuff in their own store, having to support linux on their store, and support games purchased there runing on linux is out of their plans.

i know that will sound like conspiration theory, but.. who else thinks microsoft is behind this?
that seems like an familiar situation, microsoft funding someone else to sue...

Fanatical offering a new Premium Steam Deck Bundle

Quoting: elmapulfor a moment i thought it was an bundle like: purchase an steamdeck+this game for just <small price>.
for example my nintendo64 came with mario, a few came with banjo kazooie or stuff like that, those often came with special box art, colors and stuff like that.
For some reason, I can suddenly picture a Steam Deck Bomberman pack, containing Deck, Dock, game, and some extra controllers for multiplayer matches.
what i want the most is for companies like sega, nintendo and sony to relase their own take on this.

imagine if nintendo/sony get another bad generation where they cant get support from thirdy parts or sell well their console and decide to launch an linux based console instead? i doubt they would make it as open as steamdeck where you can install games from other stores or emulators, but at least that would help to reduce the cost of multi OS game development.

it may sound impossible, but we already had some consoles from nintendo (nes mini, snes mini, the new game n watch), from sony (playstation classics) from sega (game gear micro) and even atari!

Quoting: RedWare64And considering Microsoft's track record, they are bad at taking advantage of their IPs and acquired studio
cough cough rare cough cough.
seriously, Killer Instinct was good from what i heard, but it was not developed by rare, they purchased an studio and outsource the development of on of its ips, because they couldnt manage it thenselves.

Rarereplay is a good deal, but its just an reminder of what types of games rare will not produce anymore, what is the point of paying gor an game if you know the company wont produce more of the same ? making stake holders happy?
the whole purpose of paying for something instead of pirating it is to make sure the company will make more products like those.

the only thing microsoft seems to be good at is using the IP name as an free marketing for something, selling due to the branding instead of content.

sea of thieves may prove me wrong, proving that Rare is still capable of doing new ideas instead of relying on the brands from the past.
but i doubt they wouldnt be doing even more if they were still indies or nintendo partners.

hell, when doublefine was talking about the new psychonauts, they said that they were able to improve the game thanks to the microsoft funding, guess what improvment was quoted? graphics.

sigh, seriously if he said: "we have many new gameplay mechanics that were too troublemsome to implement, test, polish to make sure they are fun to play, but thanks to microsoft we were able to do it!" then i would be excited.
but no, microsoft creativity can be sumed up as: pretty graphics.

Quoting: massatt212to many people are on hopium that microsoft is gonna do something about the problems with activision management... no microsoft is just after more ip's for their cloud gaming services... their goal is to create a cloud gaming services monopoly cause thats the future they see... there is probably some kinda stupid loophole in the agreement so they dont have to wait 10 years...
i think they can get ride of the sex schandals to save their own reputation... but its not like if anyone would boycot windows if they didnt.
as for they having an monopoly on cloud, they kinda of already have, they got 70% of marketshare a few time after entering the space, and the trend is that number going up, especially with an big company like google giving up, the only one who relied on linux to do the job (amazon is experimenting with proton though)

i dont see how this number could decrease, i mean, what investor would rather invest in amazon luna or nvidia geforce knowing that?

" 90s that contributed to this directx centered gaming development"
to be fair, prior to that, openGL should be the standard, but in pratice every video card vendor had an sub par openGL implementation and tried to force their own API instead, afaik.

Quoting: PeciskErrrr, it clearly was not. They lost to Apple and Google. Microsoft just dropped their mouse and keyboard production. I don't expect them also having follow up to XBOX Series S/X. They are prepping for big fight of "AI supremacy" (whatever marketing nonsense it means).
what i mean is that they killed the netbook form facotr, their strategy was to kill linux adoption that were hapening thanks to netbooks, they suceed at it by killing the entire form factor , it was not their original goal but did the job anyway.
fortunatelly the same didnt happened in tablets and phones, but im not completely satisfied with the apple/google duopoly either.
i wished for android the same we have for linux desktop, tons of options, and while oems have their branding and we have custom roms, the brand customization often sacrifice user choice (you cant uninstall those apps) and the custom roms may not work if you dont have all the drivers or if an app rely on google play services.

Quoting: PeciskEdit: I will throw other responses to your posts if you don't mind :)
i do mind i like to talk to wall =P... of course i dont mind, lol.

Quoting: PeciskBrazil (I understand you live there) is special case, it has very expensive tariffs for both hardware and software. That's why no one sells there. Not really Valve's fault not wanting to touch that.
i know the strugle, but as much as i care about the deck, its useless for me if i cant access it.

Quoting: PeciskI don't see reason for price drop for SD, because they are not selling it for profit. They might do some reshuffling of versions and having two models instead of three, with corrected price tags.
maybe they should quit the 64GB model altogheter and make the 256 be de minimum and increase the maximum, but that would have an side effect..
i really wished that AAA developers would make an lightweight version of their games, low res textures etc to target the64GB model... or modders, killing it would kill that possibility. (not that its ever going to happen)

Quoting: PeciskThey are still selling on brand. Steam is much bigger than ASUS is.
maybe among pc gamers but not with the general public, especially people who came from consoles and are entering pc gaming now.
