... Part of the point is a portable library that you can swap between your PC and your Steam Deck...
There. You have it. That's the exclusivity Valve is putting forward: Play anywhere, on any device, however you feel it.

That is exclusive to the PC and everyone else is trying to catch up. Valve's understanding of the PC platform is leagues in front of anybody else and they made a businness out of it.
except that microsoft has that with pc+xbox+phones (xcloud)

Quoting: damarrinI fully agree, though playing devil's advocate there for a second, if Final Fantasy IX hadn't been exclusive to PS I wouldn't have discovered the joys of couch gaming and would have been stuck at my desk for the past 20 years.
a lot of games only make sense in a portable form too.

looks great aside from the profile pic of the characters, and the music.
ex zodiac looks like an better option, or both, if you are desperately in need to play an new starfox'esque game , since nintendo take forever to launch an new one and there isnt much competition in that market/niche.

Steam Deck shipping update for Asia notes a few issues but plenty get it this year

Quoting: pmatulkaSteam Deck is being sold only in EU, UK, USA and Canada (https://steamdb.info/app/1675200/).
To sell it in Asia Valve use external partner.
Is there someone here who has right knowledge and can explain to me why Valve can't sell hardware for whole world?
they are increase the production speed as they sell, they dont want to risk an "steammachines 2" situation where supply is greater than demand, that is probably why they didnt produce many at the begining.
now they are quickly increasing demand, but the most profitable regions are still the priority, you dont want to send 1 million of units to south africa, only to not sell then there while at the same time japan want to purchase a lot and dont have then in stock.
meanwhile an competition appear and fill that market niche you didnt.

Quoting: jordicoma- Sorry boss, I cannot go to work because I have no battery left after playing all day.
No, the car has to be a car, not a gaming pc. I prefer having less technology at the car and having more battery life.
i doubt it use thaat much battery.
maybe you lose 1km , but if you didnt prepared yourself to refill the battery in a long driving session to the point that 1km was an issue, then you cant blame the car really.

Quoting: Guestwhat's the point of having a computer in a car, aside from increasing global microelectronics demand? I can understand ABS and other safety assistance, but relying on tecnology so much makes us too vulnerable, especially when all this hardware can be remotely controlled of blocked at vendor's will.
i think the point is being able to do whatever you want with your computer, that just happen to be embed to an car to control it so you can have auto pilot.

i can understand the security concers, if they have any hole in the sandbox that could be disastrous, but in genral we trust linux and virtual machines to be secure enough... to put our lives at risk with tons of uncessary systems running in the same system even when they arent nescessary?

Cemu emulator for Wii U now provides an AppImage

Quoting: M@GOidI wish Appimage became more widespread. So many projects have a Linux port but don't provide a convenient way to use the thing. Meanwhile those same projects don't have a problem providing a Windows executable.

That just contribute to the bad look Linux have among Windows users "I don't use Linux because I don't want to compile a program to use it".
its not the developers fault if we dont have an standard on linux like windows have with .exe, we are just now making those techs that work across distros and even with then some distros chose to not support all of then or offer a crap support so we still have to solve "political problems" before we can solve "techinical" ones, not to mention is a bit hard to make those packages last time i checked.

but hey, if you think otherwise you can always package yourself once they relase the source code...
Sorry, I don't agree. If you have a app and are releasing it out there for people to use, you can do your part to easy things for the end user, just like you do with the Windows executable. Appimage is not a new thing, and way before it, some devs just released a compressed file with precompiled stuff and their dependencies. Just drop it on a folder and off you go. Mozilla does it for ages with Firefox and Thunderbird.

Some devs, even the ones doing commercial stuff, just don't get it, or blatantly refuse, to accept that not all Linux users feel comfortable with the command line. It is a attitude problem. The old excuse for lack of standardization doesn't cut anymore.
yeah i already download those tar.gz where you suppose to extract and run the stuff.
but often they dont work, there is a reason for that.
