Steam Replaces The Linux Tux Logo With SteamOS
27 May 2015 at 10:57 pm UTC Likes: 6

I'll once again assume the role of the forum a**hole and point out Valve don't have to and don't need to do anything :). It is entirely in their power to promote their own distro. From their point of view Steam OS is the only thing that matters. Other than possibly serving as guinea pigs other distributions have little to no value for them (yeah, they don't give a damn for that 1% of the market). If Canonical can erase completely the word Linux from their website and Google can promote Android as this separate thing, then why shouldn't Valve? I don't think there is point in worrying that support for other distributions might suffer. They are currently only officially supporting Steam OS and Ubuntu anyway. Worst case scenario - they'll drop official support for Ubuntu, which they won't, especially if Samsung ends up buying AMD. Nothing will change for people using Debian, Arch, Fedora etc.

More Initial Thoughts On Victor Vran, The RPG From The Tropico Developers

Hope they'd work on the animations - they seem a bit stiff. Other than that I'm basically obliged to buy it at some point, with the devs being Bulgarian and all. Btw why don't you try Super Sampling instead of MSAA. My guess is you'll still be above 60 fps and get better looking game.

Endless Legend Could Come To Linux, With More Votes
21 May 2015 at 9:10 am UTC

Honestly, I'm not going to even bother voting. And it's not because I own the Windows version. It's just pointless - the Steam Workshop is a feature everybody who own the game already want to see. It's a numbers game - say 95% of existing customers vs 1% of the market/potential customers. And since this is NOT a Kickstarter game the developers owe you exactly NOTHING. I don't think name calling and suggestions for shoving are in place. Amplitude are in no way bound to porting the game for Linux and their main concern right now (as it should be) is to fixing the game completely and offering the best experience for the existing customer base.

Speculation: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords For Linux Leaked By The ESRB

I actually bought them recently when there was a sale on Steam - 1 and 2. It's great they are making a port of for Linux, but I wonder if they would be able to apply some fixes to it. Because there are a number of those that are fan-made and make the difference between a very flawed and a very awesome game. It's like Dark Souls - you need the fan fixes or it's just horrible.

Is that 2D or are the images just taken at that angle?

Spec Ops: The Line Released For Linux, Initial Port Report Included

Well, that was fast - they only announced the port a few weeks back. I wonder if they just waited till the last moment to announce it or in general eON porting is just very fast.

Divinity: The Original Sin Enhanced Edition Announced, No Linux Release Date

Quoting: Kimyrielle
Quoting: Keyrock"The full gamepad support makes me very happy, especially as they have adjusted the UI for it too."

This makes me scared. I hope the UI will be adjustable or have modes to accomodate both controllers and m&kb. My fear is that the UI will be full controller-centric and I'll have to play this with m&kb with a ****ty "streamlined" UI for controllers that doesn't let me take advantage of the fact that I have more than 12 buttons to work with.
Same here. "Game controller/console support" and "dumbed down garbage UI" go hand in hand almost 100% of the time. I hope that's not the case here.
Except they can totally make 2 separate sets of interfaces - for keyboard and mouse and for controller. Like it was done in the Van Helsing games. I don't know what's dumbed down and what isn't, but it's a nice change after working a whole day hunched over a keyboard to kickback with a gamepad in my hand.

Victor Vran RPG From The Tropico Developers Released For Linux, Some Initial Thoughts

Any idea if it will work with the open source drivers. I'm currently pissed off with AMD so I'm boycotting Catalyst and opting for bleeding edge open source - mesa 10.6 + llvm 3.7 + kernel 4.1 RC1. I know you do your reviews on a 970 but if you have info on that matter, I'd be thankful.

Divinity: The Original Sin Enhanced Edition Announced, No Linux Release Date

I think it's kind of obvious - they'll port the enhanced version instead of the original. That is why they stopped the porting process - why bother port the older version. The release would probably coincide perfectly with the Steam Machines' release . I for one, applaud them for adding controller support and porting the game for consoles. The less platform exclusives there are - the better. Just as I'd like to see God of War or Red Dead Redemption make it to PC, I'd be happy if console gamers had the chance to properly play games like Wasteland 2 or Divinity.

Performance with everything on highest isn’t great, and gave me just over 30FPS. Setting MSAA to x2 instead of x8, but keeping all else maxed out made it shoot up to 60+FPS, so that’s pretty normal as MSAA always destroys FPS.
It's absolutely normal to have a bad framerate on x8 MSAA. MSAA is my least favorite method of AA. It produces only slightly better results than SMAA yet it uses nearly as much resources as super sampling. x8 MSAA is redundant - it's better to just render in 1440p or 4k and downscale instead. The performance hit would be just marginally higher and the rendered images are much better looking.
