Any update on the legal battle with Nintendo? I'd like to see the Big N get taken down a few notches.

I'm not 100% sure how to do it split-screen, but I am able to play with my daughter using 1 account on a local server that I self-host on separate computers.

Here's the docker-compose file:

services:
  minecraft:
    image: itzg/minecraft-server:latest
    container_name: minecraft_server
    ports:
      - "25565:25565"  # Java Edition port
      - "19132:19132/udp" #Bedrock Port
    environment:
EULA: "TRUE"      # Must accept the EULA to run the server
      ONLINE_MODE: "false"
      # Uncomment or add any other environment variables as needed:
      # VERSION: "1.19.4"
      # TYPE: "vanilla"
      TYPE: "FABRIC"
      PLUGINS: |
        https://download.geysermc.org/v2/projects/geyser/versions/latest/builds/latest/downloads/spigot
        https://download.geysermc.org/v2/projects/floodgate/versions/latest/builds/latest/downloads/spigot
    volumes:
      - /mnt/truenas0/minecraft/minecraft-data:/data
      #- ./minecraft-data:/data
    restart: unless-stopped

The ONLINE_MODE: "false" flag does not verify the account, so it's local only and that's what allows me to use the same account. The GeyserMC plugin allows for both Bedrock and Java accounts to connect to the server using their respective ports, but I haven't personally tested this.

For controller usage, I installed this mod: https://modrinth.com/mod/controlify [External Link] and installed it on both clients via Prism Launcher. I realize this isn't 1:1 what you're asking for, but maybe it could inspire some other ideas or at least get your wheels turning.

Here's a block diagram:

I hope Valve are watching closely with Microsoft working towards an Xbox Handheld

If Microsoft actually implements "correctly" then it very well could be a bane for the Steam Deck. Not necessarily a death knell, but a bane nonetheless.

Consider that if Microsoft creates a handheld with an Xbox front end and a Windows back end (think SteamOS with the ability to drop back to the KDE desktop), then that could possibly be a real winner.

You could have the entire games catalog from Steam, Epic, Windows Store, etc. without worrying about the anti-cheat and/or other translation layer mismatches. I've said for years that I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't released an XboxOS.

So, the question of, "Why would MS allow for other game stores?" could be answered with the fact that it's still on Microsoft's operating system, which is riddled with telemetry for ripe data harvesting.

Of course, there's the alternative that Microsoft would release a Playstation Portal alternative and completely miss the mark. Time will tell.

Square Enix shifting from "quantity to quality" and be more multi-platform

Quoting: dpanterWhat exactly do these people consider "quality", I wonder.
Yeah every time a AAA company says something like "quality over quantity", what I hear is "we are spending even more on a handful of big franchises in the most popular genres instead of doing anything new or creative or investing in more diverse games".
Yeah, I found myself thinking "So, just new iterations of big blockbusters, then."
The thing is, aside from FF, I don't know what blockbusters Square Enix has left... Eidos was behind the Deus Ex and Tomb Raider franchises and it was sold, along with the ips...
Would absolutely love if Soul Reaver got the Rebirth treatment.

Yeah that's the only one (next to DOOM 'year zero' or whatever) that piques my interest; though I don't know how exactly to feel about it given that (allegedly) people who made the orig. Dishonoreds & Prey all left Arkane, and (as an undeniable fact) their latest Vampire game got an awful reception.
How you can say that with Licensed IP Game on there!?
