New Linux Gaming Survey For November

the last unique question is a really nice idea, I'd like to see the results on that.
Anyway, I do believe that the steam hardware is not perfect at all, but I sincerely hope/assume that valve will improve everything possible via software updates in the very near future. such a "dynamic" thing like a steambox simply can not be released as all-in-one or as embedded/optimized like older consoles, like the playstation or the xbox.
And just to mention that: I got the xbox 1, 360 and one as a gift from friends + exclusive games like halo, I really can make a statement for sure: the xbox series are not perfect at all, there are so many issues that I used to play with these just to finish campaigns in the given games, and that's it. The 1 and the 360 were even further given to friends of mine simply because I don't want/need them into my living room. Not to mention that I am not willing to pay for the xbox live network, just to be able to play multiplayer games! that idea sounds so much stupid to me, but microsoft seems to make lots of money with that. so I am not going online with that, no multiplayer, except for local multiplayer games with multiple controllers.
another absolutely annoying thing is that I can not play 1 games on the 360 or the xbox one - that is a somewhat complete fail, even microsoft trying to sell that new emulator software for the 360 and 1 as something revolutionary and new, which will make that possible at least for the xbox one.
But hey, capitalism works, people buy sh*t.

I didn't mean it that way - my idea was to have no proprietary battery pack built into the controller fore sure - I meant replaceable batteries of course, + the ability to recharge them via cable.
As a technician and with more than 500mA coming from any USB port I see no real reason why one would not be able to charge them. Surely, this requires some technology in there and a max. capacity allowed, but I'd see it as a benefit in any way.
But true, some built in pack that can not be replaced, is true BS, I was not even thinking about that

I still see an issue there - the controllers/batteries can not be charged when a wire is attached.
That is kinda annoying, one would have to have rechargeable ones + a charger. Honestly, I know this from friends who have a XBox and call me for gaming, saying something like hey bro, bring a 12 pack of batteries from the store, we're gonna need them.
This actually means that people are not always having chargers or appropriate batteries, hence battery sales go up, but these little things are really not healthy for our environment. So it is a question of mother nature, our money, ..and last but not least it is unconvincing for gamers to have a battery box instead of just plugging that thing in once a session is finished to recharge overnight.
Seriously, I want it built-in into that controller, don't tell me to buy a charger and 2 times the rechargeables, since one pair of these has to be in the gamepad, the other one in the charger to swap them every now and then. That is BS.

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

EA was a pretty much solid company, around 2000-2005
I was very much into Sim City, up to 4, ...everything past that is truly garbage - not just due to their conditional always-online-to-play DRM.
Same with need 4 speed, the quality of these drops with every release, not to mention that new pretty much cool thinking that DLC makes big bucks. Just MS' Destiny is an even worse example on that.
So yes, there are a very few games worth considering, even those I'd like to have on my steambox and steam library, but EA does care that much about it as they care about their programmers, that even Forbes mentioned it - http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/04/09/ea-voted-worst-company-in-america-again/ [External Link]
Seriously EA, it is not that I do not understand business - I am a CEO as well, but at least in terms of SteamOS/Linux, I'd prepare my own company for a new platform, which is in many respects far superior than others, with Vulkan and stuff, so that I could provide games for more platforms - without vendor lock-in (say DX) and a likely good market share for SteamOS (+ private Linux installs). You decide, regardless of how much you care and think that every computer goes with windows.

DiRT Showdown For Linux Delayed For Polishing

not sure what to say. since this is no native port... they should work on a linux-release first, I imagine it is easier to port linux games to windows than the other way round - and developing under linux is surely 250% faster than with windows. At least from my experience, ... just can't work with that OS as smoothly as with the nerd penguin.

I am not `mad` at eOn or all these wrappers and stuff - but having win32 code on a platform totally different...is somehow weird. And I am positive: it will never be as good as a native port.
DirectX + vendor lock-ins and stuff should all retire in the interest of vulkan.
