X-Blades now has a Linux beta powered by Wine

Quoting: dmantioneThis is Wine used in the right way. It should be used by developers/publishers, the use of Wine by end-users themselves is only an emergency solution if nothing else can prevent them from installing Windows.
No, the usage of Wine is for everyone and especially for older titles / games / software with no chance of being ported.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is about to get ~70% better performance with RadeonSI

Quoting: throghYet this is only possible with non-free firmware, so in fact the Mesa-drivers are cool but not complete open. :(
Especially newer cards have those problems, when installing the libre kernel!
No, Mesa is completely open. It's the AMDGPU kernel module that requires the non-free microcode.

Speaking of which, it looks like there might be some hope for a free software microcode implementation soon as well.

Check out the 'Top 10 Linux Games 2016' video from various Linux Youtubers

Well thanks for the video. But I would appreciate having more freedom within videos or just to say in content generally speaking. Perhaps with usage of MediaGoblin [External Link], Mediadrop [External Link] or even Plumi [External Link]? Talking about freedom is one thought, being free from such monopols like YouTube is another. ;)

System76 have been working with NVIDIA on Linux driver fixes, a chat with the System76 community manager

Quoting: Mountain ManIt would be great if Nvidia was more open, but that's just not the way major hardware and software companies do things. The sad truth is that if you want things completely free (as in speech, not beer) then your options are going to be severely curtailed.
That's the problem! :(
But hey: Also worth an experience. I'm surprised what you could reach with systems going under the definition of "office-pc" or "office-notebook" with an integrated graphics device for example. Using Devuan as base or Trisquel? Outstanding. :)

The thing is: Most computers (including desktop and mobile) have only UEFI within as standard implemented. I won't buy a machine which has no alternative for a free BIOS like Libreboot or Coreboot! And using NVidia as practible standard: AMD is more than good with the MESA-drivers, not really open but it's a way forward while NVidia goes more closed with their signed firmware. Complete proprietary hardware? No way, thanks! :)

The open source 'OpenMW' has released 0.41.0 to further improve Morrowind on Linux
28 Dec 2016 at 1:06 am UTC

Quoting: M@yeulCI wish it was bundled on Steam. I guess they could try to sell it/make it available on Steam as a mod.

Is it the case on GOG? I wish a client would take care of the updates, though.
No on GOG there is the good old "Morrowind" itself. But where is the problem to unpack this with innoextract and use the data with OpenMW? And why do you want another client? Just make a backup of the game-data and update OpenMW itself. There is no further need for a seperate client!

GOG are selling 10 of their 'top' 2016 games for super cheap, 5 have Linux support

Just to mention: GOG has one of the worst communities I've ever seen until today. Of course: I don't want to generalize, but to be honest ... better don't look in the international forums and just ask for help regarding to the games within their sections. There it is more calm and even nice, friendly. But within the general section there are many topics / threads similar to a field of mines. A discussion is impossible if the own opinion is not about that some big crybabies want to read / hear. Therefore you are downvoted until the posting is gone! What kind of shame for a gaming-community and corresponding platform: You want to write about tolerance for example on politics or generic humanity? Just not within this section. It is not possible at the moment! And I'm shocked GOG let this happening with a "non-interference"-strategy. I don't know how this is regarding Steam, but it is horrifying how intolerant some people are. GOG seems to have no further interest for the moment, so racism, sexism and much more can be written down regarding intolerance, even hatred. :(

Quoting: fabry92Finally office 2013. Maybe it help some new users to migrate on linux
Seriously: "Microsoft Office" under Linux? So you could stay also on Windows with native support. No use for this Office-Suite! And this is also a false promise for any migration.
