GamingOnLinux's GOTY Awards is now open!

Quoting: WorMzyShouldn't OpenXcom be in "Favourite FOSS project", not "Favourite open source games"? It's not a game by itself, you need the original game(s) data files.
Another one that sadly was missed, it has been moved. Whoever voted for that in open source games has their votes back in that category now.

In future, it's looking like we might nominate the games ourselves to prevent these issues.

It's only our second time doing this, and the categories were slightly changed during nominations, so can't be helped, but I think now all are correct :D

Bah, we also had Talos in the "Best version quality & performance released in 2015" when it was released in 2014, removed it. Someone voted for it, you have your vote back.

Also seems someone put War Thunder in the free games release in 2015 category (another from 2014), removed. Again, if you voted you have your vote back.

Sorry for wrong category stuff (it's probably due to me changing category names to explicitly state "in 2015" during nominations), it's not easy to double check so many entries mostly by yourself, as it seems other editors have been busy so I didn't have too much help to double check over them all.

Bit of a bumpy start, but hey it's how we roll.

Note: We accidentally had Wasteland 2: Director's Cut in DLC category, it's in the best update category, but it was named Wasteland 2, I have edited the name to Wasteland 2: Director's Cut and removed the one from the DLC category, whoever voted for it in the DLC category has their vote back in the DLC category.

Quoting: Storminator16"The general public doesn’t understand what it takes to make a game. Do not expect them to learn it."

That kind of sounds like they are blaming Joe Gamer for failure, which in turns leads me to believe Uber Entertainment didn't learn a lesson or two.

Joe Gamer really doesn't need to know what it takes to make a game. Joe Developer just needs to deliver.
Yeah, they did come across a bit like that. I hope they didn't mean it like that, but it did make me feel a bit like "well hold on, I paid $90 for this, I kinda expect it to work you know".

Infinite Bundle from Bundle Stars has 12 Linux games for next to nothing

Quoting: anthThey'll be wondering this even before porting, and will likely include analytics software within the game to tell them this and more.
... or they refrain from doing so for legal, morale or - most likely - practical reasons. Implementing/using such software costs additionaly money and time.

Quoting: anthGiven that Steamworks will tell publishers where sales are being made [External Link], detailed player stats [External Link], how web surfers found a store page [External Link], etc, we can be sure that at the very least there will be aggregate data about which platform keys were redeemed on.
Ain't this data the one discussed on this website for years now, defaulting to Windows and not switching to any other system if not played on this system shortly after the sell? And... I wonder when this sell is being accounted for key resellers - probably when they bought loads of keys long time ago?
Just FYI, all Unity games have tracking in them last time I checked, even wrote about it here on GOL.

Quoting: Beamboom...I'm just worried about when we will start seeing fabricated submissions here, like the "user reviews" on Amazon & co. This is already the one major site for Linux gaming news (with barely any competition at all), and it's only a question of how big the platform must be before this open article submission will be (tried) exploited.
When that happens, we will know that we have won.
The good thing is we curate all submissions (of course), so we wouldn't let it get like that.

It's usually reasonably easy to spot an advert over a story.

Got proof? The games are clearly marked as linux compatible, meaning they are at least intending to market to us.
They are indeed Linux compatible, but the keys themselves are registered as Windows sales. More info in a previous article.
To be perfectly clear that was only for Mordor and Bundle Stars listed it correctly as Windows only.

This bundle has Linux icons and advertises Linux for all of them.

DoubleFine seem to have attracted a bit of a mess with Psychonauts 2 funding

Quoting: SketchStickI'm just disappointed that you felt this warranted an article, this is not gaming news...

Also I'm getting a little tired of people trying to paint Double Fine in a bad light when Spacebase DF-9 was the only game they failed to deliver.
Some of us do find it interesting, and it's interesting to me. Not everything we post here is brand new news.

As has been pointed out Broken Age was also terribly handled. I also own Massive Chalice, and it was so boring i regretted it.

Quoting: fleskIf you don't like taking risks, avoid crowdfunding, Early Access and investments.
This is my point of the article, to simply warn people of dangers like I always do :)

It's a regular user writing a game-inspired short story, what's not to like.

So, what? No need to be silly about it, i take breaks now and then, especially around Christmas time.
