I disagree. Self-hosted platforms are basically impossible to control in this way. I would like to see the government come for MY Mumble server. Libera already issued a statement saying that the odds of them requiring age verification is incredibly slim. And even if it did, somebody can just spin up a new IRC network that hasn't had the restriction imposed on it yet.

It doesn't have to be this way. The mistake is using centralized non-user owned platforms.
Sure, but we're not exactly talking about smaller self-hosted stuff, we're talking primarily about more public community stuff which is the target of all this.

Quoting: Liam DaweEven if it isn't yet, there's not much to stop governments forcing ISPs to block IRC servers. We've barely begun to see the effects of all this yet, it's going to expand.
I'll just reconfigure my bouncer tyvm.
Sure, but that's nothing something average people do which this will all affect. Although, as with a lot of these laws, they do end up pushing people to alternatives to find workarounds. It will be a never-ending battle.

Is IRC blocked anywhere?

I don't think we will ever understand why some people do stupid annoying things like this. Some people to do just for kicks, because they can.

I would say the start of May would no longer count as "early".

Quoting: Aaron SparksFascinating data for sure. I saw a different article by SteamDeckHQ that showed Stardew Valley at #1, but the data pull was dated January 4-February 2, as opposed to January 3-February 1.
As far as my preference through that time frame- Slots and Daggers, Dispatch, SilkSong, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, and Deep Rock Survivor have all consumed my gaming time on deck and desk.
Yeah, the data will change based on when you grab it, as Valve's charts are always up to date, so ours is actually a bit more true to January since we grabbed it earlier.

Quoting: AsciiWolfUgh, nope? Linux is not Windows. Do they also distribute their Android client as an *.apk?

They just make everything harder for their Linux users for no reason - and even more harder since they distribute it as a binary blob instead of a standard *.flatpakref. Why?

Binary blob installers were a thing back in 2005s.

They probably do this for two reasons:
1. Add a Flathub remote and install additional dependencies from there. I however believe that a regular flatpakref can also do this and none of this was needed if they published it on Flathub.
2. Install and setup Flatpak support on Ubuntu (which does not have Flatpak support). But is it actually necessary since almost every other distro comes with a Flatpak support out-of-box?
You're right, it's not Windows. But that doesn't really mean anything here. As for Android, no it's on the Play store - but that is the official central way to get any Android apps so it makes sense there.

I don't know why we're acting like Flathub is the only right / official / proper way to do Flatpak? It's not, again - that's part of the point of it. This isn't Snap.

I don't see anything actually wrong with how NVIDIA are doing this. All desktop platforms Windows, macOS and Linux get a direct download from NVIDIA.
