Quoting: EikeIt's just some gimmick Valve came up with, just like Steam Machines it's not worth bothering with.Quoting: GuestMake sure Steam Play is disabled so you don't accidentally download the Windows version. I just tried it and it had a missing executable. What's this "Steam Play"...?
;)

Quoting: GuestYeah, I don't think that's how it's supposed to go. As far as I know it basically tells you what happened.Quoting: EhvisSo there goes that plan to play the first one before this comes out. :DWell it is a prequel, so maybe you can start with this one anyway. I assume that's probably okay to do and wouldn't have spoilers or be too confusing but I'm not sure.

Well, GOG built their entire business around those games, so it's kind of silly to pretend they don't exist. Nostalgia is a very powerful thing.

Quoting: Guesti very much see some publishers and devs going ok so they will use proton to play our games so we have demandThat's the way I see it as well. Perhaps Valve can convince developers to do the little extra effort to make sure their game works OK with Proton (or, dare I even say, to take Steam Play and Proton into account when choosing middleware and making their game) and then, when Linux market share inevitably grows, developers will say OK, now it makes sense to make a native version.
now lets port our next game native now that we know linux users actually want games from us

The Linux community unfortunately has the same mentality as any other community and the if-you're-not-with-us-you're-against-us attitude can be very strong and there'll be always someone who is very vocally unhappy or outraged by something.
Whereas it all boils down to us using the OS we want to use (which means software makers must support us if we want our computers to be useful) and us wanting as many people as possible to use it (which means the OS must be fit for general use).
We're getting there, but the constant bickering and animosity between the different parts of the open source community is not helping.

Quoting: ageresI can't tell you why, but I have that impression as well. I guess it comes from the DYI and "it doesn't have to look good because it's free" mentality that was prevalent in the community some years back. It's changed a lot now, but the things people have etched in their brains are not easy to root out.Quoting: rustybroomhandleThe word "Linux" was so toxic once upon a timeWhy?

I wouldn't mind if it were Dark Souls Remastered. There are lava levels there (the Demon Ruins someone else mentioned a few pages back followed by Lost Izalith) very similar to what the image shows. Plus, it's an awesome game which has just recently had a release on Windows and consoles. Fits right in.

This is seriously tempting, but I'll need to see more photos before I can make any decision. The one photo they show looks OK I guess, but if other laptops from them are anything to go by, it won't look or feel high quality. It's not helping that I'm coming from a decade of buying Apple hardware (and installing Linux on them)...
