Feral Interactive have no plans to update their Linux ports for Steam Deck

Quoting: GuestAbsolutely disgusting statement from Feral but their GNU+Linux native games will work on any distro. It's not like they can restrict them to Ubuntu.

I'm not buying anymore games they've ported or developed going forward, which is fine by me.
Such comments really disturb me and it happens again and again. If a company invests in Linux gaming and drops out or just skips a title for any reason, everyone screams evil and boycot.
Easier to ignore us. If valve makes the game somewhat playable, people will buy.

Feral had a key role in making LinuxGaming as awesome as it is today. It's sad they are not profiting from the current momentum. At the same time it's awesome we are not dependent on porting houses and their ability to get publishers into a contract any more. These contracts often were strangely restricted, we are aware of that for a long time. It's not their games and if the publisher doesn't make it worthwhile for them, they have done their job and are not forced to do work for no pay. Times have changed and they are free to go on. We should wish them luck and maybe they will play a role in the future.
Amen, and I hope so.

Proton is great, but if it puts an end to native ports, it could wind up being a real can of worms!

I mean look at web browsers for example: they've all become chromium clones or lookalikes because of a certain browser being bundled in so many installers over the years. Firefox webextensions can't do half of what XUL addons could, and none of the forks are tenable in the long term. Now most browsers all look and act the same, and I hate it!

The current generation of programmers seem dead-set on taking choices away from the user... phooey!

Quoting: kidoHow does Russia threaten America? This is funny! Russia's partnership with China is a consequence of America's actions. By its actions, America is pushing Russia into the arms of China. It is time for America to attend to its domestic problems and scale back its imperial ambitions to impose its will on the world. There will no longer be a unipolar world, and it is hard for Americans to come to terms with this.
Do you really want a war with Russia? Russia definitely does not want this. There will be no winners.
Hell no, I don't want war. I believe I already stated my reasons why. However, politics aside: are you seriously defending that monster Putin? I think Wikipedia says it best:

Under Putin's leadership, Russia has shifted to authoritarianism. Experts do not generally consider Russia to be a democracy, citing the jailing and repression of political opponents, the intimidation and suppression of the free press and the lack of free and fair elections.[e] Russia has scored poorly on Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index, the Economist Intelligence Unit's Democracy Index, and Freedom House's Freedom in the World index.

Quoting: kernelkidRemember what happened to Saddam Hussein? Remember what happened to Osama bin Laden? If Putin invades Ukraine he will wish before it is all over that for his and families sake, he never did. America will have his head on a silver platter. Be careful what you wish for Putin, you just might get it....AND MORE. I've always heard Putin had such a strong background in intelligence and spying, we will soon see how much intelligence he truly has, depending on how he handles this. He may calculate a new invasion would be similar to his takeover of Crimea, but that calculation would be IDIOTIC. Go ahead 'strongman', give Team America World Police another reason to have another war. We won't give any quarter and we won't allow you to surrender. GO AHEAD, TRY US. IT WON'T END WELL FOR YOU VLAD.
Easy fella, taking on Russia would be an entirely different beast. Bin Laden never had any real power, and Saddam folded like a house of cards. Putin has a lot of power backing him. Why do you think that none of the attempts to remove him from power have been successful? He's got his people buffaloed!

I think we'd win, but we would have hell to pay. Both Napoleon and Hitler made the mistake of a land based war with Russia. WW2 in the east was a slaughter for all involved. Hitler lost the moment he started Operation Barbarossa in June of '41. There's a reason for the saying "Never start a land war in Asia.": it's too darn big to hold!

We've already had one proxy war with Russia: see Vietnam, which I blame only on de Gaulle; we wanted a diplomatic solution but the blasted frog threatened to back out of NATO if we didn't support his claim on "French Indochina". We don't want that kind of civil unrest again. Our civilians blamed our own troops instead of asking themselves who actually caused the war. The counter-culture movement didn't care, they were too busy getting high.

Russia would ally with China, North Korea, Syria, Turkey, and Iran at the very least to fight us. That's a vast majority of the continent. Our nuclear arsenals are roughly equal. We'd destroy each other, and leave the Earth uninhabitable. Is that really what we want?

That's why I'm worried.

You just had to remind me of Russia...

I'm not scared, I'm terrified. I have a Ukrainian pal I used to chat with on an old fan site, and I'm afraid for them. Not to mention, my cousin is one of those 8,500 soldiers on alert to deploy from here in the USA. He's with the 101st Airborne. Nuts is all I have to say to Putin!

The current situation mirrors Poland in WW2 is currently my nightmare scenario for a potential WW3. China could also take the opportunity to attack Taiwan, and then we'd be obligated to step in, Iran could pull something, then there's that idjit in North Korea... I'm praying for nothing to happen like I've been imagining for two months. I've had dreams of total nuclear annihilation

Man, I don't usually play evil factions, particularly Chaos; but the gameplay possibilities here seem extremely awesome! It just barely fits the lore of Chaos Undivided, though.

Curse you, Liam! Now I'm trapped too! Here I was going to rescue your sorry hide...

Picked it up on my phone as I finally got one of the "smart" abominations (a fairly nice Stylo 5) after my carrier dropped "feature" phone support. Yes, I'm that dinosaur who only uses phones to make calls not texts.

Cheaper there, and I'm guessing there's a reason. Merc-o-transactions anyone? No way in heck am I ever spending a dime on those predatory practices, though.

Also picked up Stardew Valley for a fiver. I have a pathological need to own that game on every platform it exists on; and yes, I plan on saving up to buy the physical limited edition sometime. I dare not count how many hours I've spent in it on my switch... but I digress.

I've also installed ports of Wesnoth, Freeciv, SuperTuxKart, Frozen Bubble, and several other open source games.

I'm tempted to see if I could put actual Linux on it via Ubuntu Touch or something similar instead of google's "Frankenstein's monster" present in Android.

The itch.io Winter Sale is now live with plenty of indies

Quoting: NezchanHm. The only game I really want on Itch right now (Wildermyth) isn't on sale, at least not yet. All the other stuff that catches my eye, I've already got.
Trust me, if ever a game was worth full price, its Wildermyth. Each of the included campaigns (Eluna and the Moth is my favorite, and I recommend saving it for last) are ~20 hours each, and the random campaigns are nearly as long. Not to mention the mods that add custom events. You can wind up with generations of adventurers with their own quirks that make them memorable.

I have over 130 hours in the game, and still feel like there are stories that need to be written.

Don't you see his username?
a all-murican trumpster by his nick I suppose.
Hey now, don't lump all of us rednecks in there! I voted against that foul-mouthed, ornery idjit! (spelling intentional) No one should ever be as rude as that fella. He obviously hasn't ever read the Good Book outside of a sermon and most likely is one of those guys the preacher has to wake up!

Anyone who can claim to believe the word of that Nikita Khrushchev wannabe Putin (You'd be hard pressed to find any American born before the collapse of the Soviet Union who actually does) because it's politically expedient doesn't have the USA's best interests at heart.

Not that I don't have the same suspicion of the PRC, mind you. I maintain a healthy distrust of any non-democratic nation with Republic in its name. Also, Jinping's actions against all three Abrahamic religions, Taiwan, and Tibet (Ever since I learned its history in high school, I consider it to be independent.) turn my stomach.

Kim, don't get me started. My uncle was at Chosin Reservoir. I could write a doggone book!

That self-serving quasi-populist Trump cozy-ed up to all three. Unless he needed brownie points with voters who understand that these are the enemies of all that is just in the world. Then he couldn't condemn their actions fast enough. Only to turn around and be buddies with 'em the next day.

Oh my God, it's happening! Thanks! :woot:
Ozymandias? I dunno, that game sounds like it'll just end in despair.
Hey, it has works to show ye mighty at least!

Stuff like that is insidious and disgusting.
This writing is so cute of naivety and philosophical, political and ethical ignorance that I wonder if you were trolling considering your pseudo or making second degree humor?

People that claims to not communicate on personal opinions about politics, world state(economic, ecological,...) were already said by Plato as "very political" (so old problem, no new ideas): in fact, they agree and are fine with the current system. And by saying to other to not tell their political opinions in their daily life and products, they ask them to shut up and join their "every thing is fine in our current system view". This is a corner-stone of consequentialism.

Claiming/requesting people to not talk about politics in arts, culture, etc. is thus ultra-political.
My head is spinning after that. :dizzy::sick::dizzy:

Myself, I like political simulation games like Democracy. That's the right way to do it, give people all sides of the equation, not just one or the other. Right, Left, Center, I believe everyone should be able to visualize their ideal in a game.

Minus hate groups that is. There's a reason the original Wolfenstein is my favorite FPS, after all.

Musings on the state of things in the world today ahead:

That allows for more civil discussion than satire. Believe me, being a moderate in my neck of the woods depends on listening to everyone, otherwise I'd get run out of town on a rail. I really wish us in the USA had a third political party for those willing to cooperate with both sides rather than fight the others. Yes, there are independent parties, but most of them are even further right or left than Democrats or Republicans. There's no large enough party dedicated to compromise to make much difference.

People are dying because neither side is willing to compromise on the smallest things. I'm sick of that. I can't even watch the news without crying anymore. I find myself asking "Please people, can we love each other like we're supposed to?" in my daily life nearly every day.
