What Happens When You Request A Refund On Steam?
16 Jun 2015 at 3:16 am UTC

Quoting: NovenHrm, I just sent in a refund request for StarDrive 2, which I have played for 3 hours. It was approved and I also bought it when it was released. I really wish there was some indication on whether or not I will get a refund on a game or not rather than it being a crap-shoot.
I'm curious, does your transaction history not display this? Would be nice information to know because they totally should show you if they aren't doing it.

Just pointing this out, but I think you meant £2M for Yooka-Laylee. ;)

Fallout 4 And Steam Machine Release Dates A Coincidence? Yes, Probably.

Quoting: aLBut now that you mention it... and I start to accept it as a possibility... it maybe make sense... hear me out...

I dont believe in coincidences. Would bethesda want to sabotage steamOS machines on launch day? Well, they were in bed pretty close when the announcement of paid mods for skyrim. That makes me think that they get along... and that the picking of the date was no coincidence...
Actually, the more I think about it, it probably isn't coming to Linux. Remember the failure of the paid mods? When Gabe publicly stated on a reddit post (you can Google it), he stated that the drama and uproar around it costed them a butt load a cash (millions). Many were sceptical and assumed he meant customer service, but I believe the possibility of Valve losing Bethesda's confidence may have costed them some relations damage because Bethesda got a lot of shit from their customers as well.

However, I could be wrong. He could have meant anything, really.

At least there is Wasteland 2.

Quoting: CheesenessIf we didn't have the Flash version of VVVVVV, the native C++ version would never have existed. Same goes for Binding of Isaac and other games.
I have Evoland and won't be returning it despite the flash. However, I just hope the announced Evoland 2 will not be flash. I agree with you, but if it becomes a habit of solution, I just can't get behind the concept. Though my assumption is that the developer made the original Evoland without Linux in mind and has, hopefully, found better software solutions that won't put them in this situation. It's also worth noting, potential new SteamOS users that have no clue what Linux is will likely be refunding flash based ports if they don't start up. It's a legitimate concern, honestly.

Personally, I can't find myself using the refund policy much (if at all), but still needs fine tuning for specific OS cases as I mention here [External Link]. It's good and should be like this, but my habits of rewarding a developer for a port still haven't waned.

Quoting: EikeInteresting stuff about it from developers, commented by TotalBiscuit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPUToCNq-iA [External Link]
One thing he mentions is that you only need one copy of a game to initiate an avalanche of illegal copies, and that it doesn't really matter if that one is refunded or not.
Not sure what you're implying, but he also mentions it would happen regardless of Steam refunds (which I agree on this subject). This is for the case for DRM-free builds that aren't removed (which are usually sold outside of Steam as well, such as GOG and what have you, which could ALSO be pirated anyway). Point is, pirates are still going to pirate, no more, no less.

Video Of Skullgirls Running On Linux Released, Looks Very Promising

Still excited despite the drama that happened. I'm just glad it's still happening because if there is a good fighting game that will ever come to Linux, it will be Skullgirls. I was hoping Mortal Kombat X would be coming (since Warner Bros seems to be port outsourcing on some titles), but I'm not sure I would want that game from all the negative reception (microtransaction content) and poor performance it had on release for the Windows version. While I have Skullgirls, I have yet to get the DLC characters (and future ones), so I will buy that to celebrate the port release.

Looks Like Shadow Of Mordor Won't Support AMD Graphics On Linux At Release

Quoting: Maelraneit is a monopoly from the viewpoint of a gamer!)
As someone else pointed out, you would be willing to support a monopoly (Microsoft) over a monopoly (Nvidia), which makes no fucking sense. If you try to make the Apple claim, then I'll make the Intel claim. This is how asinine your argument is.

ARK: Survival Evolved, The Unreal Engine Survival Game Will Release On The 25th For Linux

TBH, I was skeptical if they were going to release it or not. While I'm not into Survival games (except Don't Starve, that game is awesome), I'm glad to hear it coming out. I will praise them on this though... THANK GOD it's not another survival zombie game.

Looks Like Shadow Of Mordor Won't Support AMD Graphics On Linux At Release

Quoting: wojtek88I have to say that worst case scenario comes true. All the steam machines have NVidia GPU (correct me if I'm wrong)
Majority do, but there was one with Intel and others with AMD options listed on release. There were also options to customize your hardware, depending on the vendor (ie: Syber allowed you to ask for pretty much anything). That was information at the announced Steam Machines debut, so you'll have to look up the +10 vendors sites if that information on Steam disappeared.

and developers who cooperate with Valve are meant to make games work on Steam Machines.
Duh, and what is SteamOS? Debian. What is Debian? Linux. Upgrade your hardware? Vulkan isn't going to be a success story for Linux if people stick to toasters.

Tux icon was changed to Steam OS icon for a reason. Developers won't be forced to make games work on Linux distributions - they will be forced to ensure that experience on Steam OS will be good. And what's more - I bet official Steam Machines with Steam OS will get support.
Oh, here we go. The baseless paranoia that SteamOS is out to kill Linux and rule them all because of a branding image. Did we suddenly forget Valve is releasing their open source Intel driver? I'm sure they would release a proper AMD one as well if AMD wasn't off in their own world.

If You decide to build Your own "Steam Machine" with Steam OS but AMD graphic - it may turn out that half of the AAA games do not run on your machine, because Your card is not supported.
No shit, that's the current state of affairs today with AMD and Linux. If they said it would work optimally without anyone improving the AMD experience on Linux across the board, they would be shooting themselves in the foot for making such a claim.

Don't get me wrong, I want AMD to survive because competition is a good thing, but if they drag their feet in this process (two way street in this scenario), their fans might want to rethink where to buy a graphic card.

Just FYI, There Are Plenty Of Games On Sale Over At Steam

Quoting: GuestOh and this page on steamdb [External Link] might be more practical than Steam itself to look for good deals.
Thank you! I prefer this over the front page of Steam. Much easier on the eyes. Whether it's less painful for my wallet, I couldn't say. o-o
