I can't say it's the year of the Linux Desktop, but it's definitely the year of Linux.

Thanks though to Proton
for killing native linux games development
This kind of sounds like just whining because you didn't get your way. I can understand someone who has strong free software principles and doesn't want to play proprietary games. I can even understand people who only want DRM-free games. But what is the actual ideology of someone who doesn't like game support on Linux unless it's native? You can't claim you're doing it to advocate for free software. Wine, Proton, DXVK, etc. are all free and open source. You're kind of spitting all over their work and not actually contributing anything other than a complaint about not getting things your way.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but I just really want to understand how being mad at Valve and the FOSS community for making more games work on Linux is productive. Would you rather go back to having most games not work on Linux?

GE-Proton 7.15 is out, enables Fall Guys on Linux and Steam Deck easily
25 Apr 2022 at 7:45 pm UTC

Quoting: gradyvuckovicHats off to GE for the fix for Fall Guys, and thanks Liam for the article, but at the same time, ugh..

Why is this even necessary? Surely if a developer cares enough to enable EAC compatibility they could at least put the EAC file in the right spot? Why did they even publish the update without at least testing it once to ensure it works? And why after weeks of it being widely reported that the file is in the wrong spot, have they STILL not moved the file into the right place? It's not exactly a 'major fix' to implement, it's literally just moving a file..
Maybe the game Fall Guys is semi-autobiographical.

Unreal Engine 5 has officially launched, lots of Linux and Vulkan improvements

Someone exported the matrix demo (magnet:?xt=urn:btih:fgzdm32lgnurbextst2o3jll2sdplyuh), and I got it running in Proton, but it either doesn't detect the graphics card or the nvidia driver just doesn't support nanite mesh. As a result, none of the nanite meshes load.

Steam Play Proton could get direct support for NVIDIA Image Scaling

ICYMI: NVIDIA are also working with Valve to get Gamescope working on their drivers.
Did they even get Wayland working with their drivers? Last time I looked, it was a no-go in KDE. I admittedly haven't looked in a while though.

Valve actually announced Steam for Chrome OS now too
29 Mar 2022 at 7:25 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: denyasisI was always under the impression that most/many of the Chromebooks were lower powered ARM chipsets? I'm assuming this is for x86 systems only?
It's kind of odd timing because a lot more Chromebooks ran on x86 architecture a few years ago. I'd say maybe even the majority did, but as Google pushed for more integration with Android apps, it also made sense to gradually shift Chromebooks more to ARM. Steam on ChromeOS made sense more in 2017 than it does now. I even have an x86 Chromebook that will stop receiving updates this June. I've already had it in dev mode for quite some time, and it will switch to a full-time Linux laptop pretty soon.

It's saddening what propaganda can do to people.
People believe a lot of the propaganda because it confirms a lot of what they already believed. That's why it's so effective. After all, a lot of the people who make the propaganda are just regular people too, not cunning masterminds who brainwash the masses. It's something that has persisted in my country (America) for decades.

Valve clarifies how they test Native Linux or Proton for Steam Deck

Quoting: headless_cyborgI'm curious about Rise/Shadow of the TR because their Feral native ports are IMO perfect so they should be the way to go.
They're good ports but not perfect. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still receiving updates that Feral hasn't added. They could go back and update all their games, but it's probably not profitable at this point.

Wine/Proton is an open source solution, while Feral's wrapper was not. Dare I say this is a better solution?

Tomb Raider's Linux port from Feral Interactive delisted on Steam

Quoting: jordicomaAnd probably I'm strange, but I prefer a slow running native game than having to run it on proton/wine and the developers no supporting Linux.
On steamdb it's still listed as Linux https://steamdb.info/app/203160/ [External Link]
Is it maybe time to rethink what "supporting Linux" means? Many devs are now purposefully tuning their games to make sure they work in Proton, which is a free and open source Linux program. By supporting Proton, aren't they, by extension, supporting Linux?

Lutris 0.5.10 Beta 1 is out with Origin and Ubisoft Connect integration

Ubisoft Connect had stopped working last time I tried it, so it'll be nice if they've got it working again.
