Proton Experimental pulls in newer DXVK to help God of War on Linux

So far I'm loving it. The very first time I started it, performance was really low, not sure why. I restarted it, and it worked well. With DLSS, it's excellent.

NVIDIA releases a 12GB GeForce RTX 3080

Upping the memory is one thing, but this appears to effectively be a different GPU. Why not just change the name? It's only going to cause confusion for people thinking they're buying one thing and ending up with another, especially in aftermarket sales.

Proton Experimental sees new fixes for DEATHLOOP, Forza Horizon 5

It's interesting that they have a fix for audio in Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I've never even been able to get that game to launch.

Two years on, Stadia seems to have no direction left

Quoting: GuestI actually think what held it back from attracting game publishers is linux and vulkan. It probably would have had a better time attracting big publishers with a Windows based solution since the effort of putting games on the service would have been lower. I expect to get a lot of flak from linux stans for that opinion but it needs saying.
Not sure why anyone would disagree really, the technical side of that is 100% true. Porting to a new platform and API takes a lot more time than adjusting a Windows release to talk to Stadia services.
It was the same thing that held back Steam Machines when they were first released. Valve learned from that and is relying heavily on Proton to make sure Steam Decks can run Windows games. It seems like Google is kind of living in a bubble on this. They need to sweeten the pot somehow even if it means sharing revenue. Offer Steam or GOG keys for games people buy on Stadia. That way customers are at least guaranteed they'll still own their games if Stadia vanishes.

GOG removes HITMAN after customer backlash over online features
11 Oct 2021 at 1:03 am UTC

Are there actually singleplayer features that require an online connection? I thought it was because of leaderboards and basically comparing your missions to other people. For me it just becomes an annoyance because I don't normally care about those online features. I remember Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2 had settings in the menu where you could easily turn off any online features. That seems like a much better approach than requiring it and annoying you with popups if your connection drops.

It reminds me of this native Linux game I once played called Cargo Commander. I actually enjoyed it at first until one time my connection dropped, and the game literally just ended.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion has dropped Linux support (updated)

Quoting: CatKillerSince developers like this suck so much at customer service, Valve should force them to do better: give automatic refunds to affected customers, to make them whole, and withhold revenue until the cost of that has been recovered. That's what other retailers do. I'm only ever going to buy a handful of games from any particular game dev, but I buy hundreds overall from Steam; my confidence in buying things on Steam becomes less every time a developer pulls this kind of scam, which harms Valve.
Right! I see people on here saying they're bad at software development. That may or may not be true, but what's definitely true is that they lack "soft skills." They don't know how to treat customers right and don't seem to care.

NVIDIA DLSS for Proton + Linux with DirectX 11 / 12 lands in September
26 Aug 2021 at 8:11 pm UTC

The last I checked, the Nvidia 470 driver was effectively broken [External Link] for DX12 games. Is the latest version working now? If not, I'd hope they'd fix that before worrying about DLSS.

Google says Stadia is very much 'alive and well' according to a new interview

They have a deal with Ubisoft allowing ganers to play some of the titles if you have a Ubisoft+ subscription. If they're to survive, I think they'll need to make other deals for EA Play and others.

The big hurdle, of course, is the time and money it takes to port games to Stadia, and then there's the danger of losing any game you've bought if Stadia goes under.

System76 releases the open source Launch Configurable Keyboard

I agree with most of the other comments. I like the idea, but I need a full-size keyboard. Having used a ten keyless, I can't even count the number of times my hand reached over to type on the number pad only to smack the desk. 😆

NVIDIA plan to support Linux with GeForce NOW using Chrome
25 Nov 2020 at 4:42 pm UTC

Quoting: WildCoderWhy chrome only? I would much rather they let Firefox work instead of having to spoof my user-agent string.
It could be a technical decision, but considering Edge is even based on Chromium now, it's probably a business decision. Maybe Google helped fund it.
