Quoting: rustybroomhandleWow, the comments on that announcement seem to be 90% Russians yelling about nazis and calling CDPR "traitors" and stuff.
It's saddening what propaganda can do to people.
People believe a lot of the propaganda because it confirms a lot of what they already believed. That's why it's so effective. After all, a lot of the people who make the propaganda are just regular people too, not cunning masterminds who brainwash the masses. It's something that has persisted in my country (America) for decades.

Valve clarifies how they test Native Linux or Proton for Steam Deck

Quoting: headless_cyborgI'm curious about Rise/Shadow of the TR because their Feral native ports are IMO perfect so they should be the way to go.
They're good ports but not perfect. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still receiving updates that Feral hasn't added. They could go back and update all their games, but it's probably not profitable at this point.

Wine/Proton is an open source solution, while Feral's wrapper was not. Dare I say this is a better solution?

Tomb Raider's Linux port from Feral Interactive delisted on Steam

Quoting: jordicomaAnd probably I'm strange, but I prefer a slow running native game than having to run it on proton/wine and the developers no supporting Linux.
On steamdb it's still listed as Linux https://steamdb.info/app/203160/ [External Link]
Is it maybe time to rethink what "supporting Linux" means? Many devs are now purposefully tuning their games to make sure they work in Proton, which is a free and open source Linux program. By supporting Proton, aren't they, by extension, supporting Linux?

Lutris 0.5.10 Beta 1 is out with Origin and Ubisoft Connect integration

Ubisoft Connect had stopped working last time I tried it, so it'll be nice if they've got it working again.

520 games are now rated either Verified or Playable for Steam Deck

I wish I knew the secret for Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. It's listed as playable, but I can't even get it to start on my machine, or any other Origin+Steam game.

Steam Deck Verified jumps to over 240 titles

My dream would be Torchlight and Torchlight 2 updated with Steam Deck support. As of now, they don't even support controllers, so I'm not holding my breath.

Epic Games CEO says a clear No to Fortnite on Steam Deck

Quoting: GuestAnticheat is so dumb. It's just like DRM... The only thing that reliable stops cheating is a paywall, but that of course would destroy games like fortnite. The only remotely acceptable anticheat is VAC anyway. That one doesn't need access to your credit card either.
I don't know if a paywall is the only way, but you are right about it being similar to DRM. Sweeney is basically saying it's not in his financial interest to make it work. People defending him are saying he's right, but being right about the technical limitations doesn't preclude him from finding another method. It's all about money.

The question is, how badly do you want to play Fortnite? If you had to provide your government ID and a face scan to match, would you? That way if people report you for cheating, your real life self could get banned. There are other methods besides AC software that can discourage cheating, but Epic would have to be willing to try them. But to quote a famous rapper, "If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense," and Epic is all about that money.

Quoting: robertosf92Tim Sweeney's comments came about at a time when he was battling apple for the right to distribute software in places other than the App Store. I don't think he cares about linux tbh.
Right. He cares about money. If he thinks there's money to be made with the Steam Deck, he'll probably consider supporting it. He'd probably consider supporting a toaster if it could make him some cash.

Stadia continues the slow downward spiral

Quoting: devlandCloud gaming makes as much sense as working full time in the metaverse with a headset on your face all day. It doesn't. Never has.

If you can afford a fast and stable internet connection then you can afford a console or medium end PC.
Your logic doesn't track. The minimum Stadia requirements are 10 Mbps. There are people who can afford that who definitely can't afford a gaming PC and maybe not even a console.

Cloud gaming also offers the ability to play on mobile devices, so even people who have a PC or console but are travelling would be able to to play.

Kind of funny to see Rocket League on there when it's no longer even available for sale. Valve is definitely "being the bigger man" in their conflict with Epic.
