GOG removes HITMAN after customer backlash over online features
11 Oct 2021 at 1:03 am UTC

Are there actually singleplayer features that require an online connection? I thought it was because of leaderboards and basically comparing your missions to other people. For me it just becomes an annoyance because I don't normally care about those online features. I remember Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2 had settings in the menu where you could easily turn off any online features. That seems like a much better approach than requiring it and annoying you with popups if your connection drops.

It reminds me of this native Linux game I once played called Cargo Commander. I actually enjoyed it at first until one time my connection dropped, and the game literally just ended.

Quoting: CatKillerSince developers like this suck so much at customer service, Valve should force them to do better: give automatic refunds to affected customers, to make them whole, and withhold revenue until the cost of that has been recovered. That's what other retailers do. I'm only ever going to buy a handful of games from any particular game dev, but I buy hundreds overall from Steam; my confidence in buying things on Steam becomes less every time a developer pulls this kind of scam, which harms Valve.
Right! I see people on here saying they're bad at software development. That may or may not be true, but what's definitely true is that they lack "soft skills." They don't know how to treat customers right and don't seem to care.

NVIDIA DLSS for Proton + Linux with DirectX 11 / 12 lands in September

The last I checked, the Nvidia 470 driver was effectively broken [External Link] for DX12 games. Is the latest version working now? If not, I'd hope they'd fix that before worrying about DLSS.

They have a deal with Ubisoft allowing ganers to play some of the titles if you have a Ubisoft+ subscription. If they're to survive, I think they'll need to make other deals for EA Play and others.

The big hurdle, of course, is the time and money it takes to port games to Stadia, and then there's the danger of losing any game you've bought if Stadia goes under.

I agree with most of the other comments. I like the idea, but I need a full-size keyboard. Having used a ten keyless, I can't even count the number of times my hand reached over to type on the number pad only to smack the desk. 😆

NVIDIA plan to support Linux with GeForce NOW using Chrome

Quoting: WildCoderWhy chrome only? I would much rather they let Firefox work instead of having to spoof my user-agent string.
It could be a technical decision, but considering Edge is even based on Chromium now, it's probably a business decision. Maybe Google helped fund it.

They just sent me Stadia Premiere for free. I enjoyed playing the Immortals Fenyx Rising demo.

According to a Stadia developer, streamers should be paying publishers and it backfired

The DMCA is a gross abuse of copyright. It always has been, and that includes the music industry's greedy exploitation of it. Copyright was never meant to be used this way. I say this as a librarian who remembers all the harm it did when it was first passed.

I have no real desire to use it, but I am curious if HBO Max works in it since it no longer works in Chrome or Firefox.

These cards were all gone in a few minutes. Also, they're going on sale on eBay, which means at least some of the people who bought them were just scalpers.
