There are plenty of good features from Madden they could imitate. The annual release of a full-priced game is not one of them.

EVERSPACE is finally nearing a release on Linux, initial release will be under the radar

As much as Tim Sweeney complains about Windows [External Link], you'd think Unreal Engine would work flawlessly on Linux by now. It kind of seems like he's all talk. Anyway, if the devs of this game manage to do a good job with it, I sincerely hope it sells well on Linux so they're encouraged by the results.

Steam now has over 3,500 games for Linux, with GOG having over 700

It seems like it wasn't that long ago when all we had was LGP, Icculus, Garage Games and free games like Tux Racer. It's amazing how far we've come.

Paradox are now doing their own game client for downloads, cloud saves, statistics and so on

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoSo... If I download a Paradox game with their client, do I need Steam anyway?
You probably will if you purchased it in Steam. I imagine it will be like Ubisoft games that you purchase in Steam but still end up having to use Uplay on top of it. It all seems rather unnecessary, but I'd echo the comments above. If it's got Linux support, I really can't complain.

I play it with my kids. I never even thought about going online.

MXGP3 - Motocross is coming to Linux from Virtual Programming, plus something strange happened

Come on! This is too easy. Obviously, VP traveled into the future using Hat Kid's technology, secured the deal and then announced it in the past.

Regarding MXGP3, I hope it actually happens. MX vs. ATV Supercross Encore was also promised on Linux long ago but never happened.

Most people no longer care what operating system they're using as long as it works well and is easy to use. PC gamers use Windows because it's currently the best option, not because they're necessarily Windows fanboys. To compete, Linux first has to become a more attractive option in terms of performance. That might be difficult with third-party ports of games, but we've seen native games start to really give Windows some competition (like Dota 2).

The next step I think would be to make a development suite, some type of nicely packaged gaming development system that allows developers to easily bring games to Linux. If it becomes easier than Windows to make games for Linux, that gives it another advantage.

The last step would be to get some first releases or timed exclusives, if you prefer. A company like Valve would have to step up and make that happen. If great games start dropping on Linux first and run better on Linux, PC gamers will switch.

It doesn't seem like they're asking for much money. Am I just overestimating how much it takes to make a game, or does S$70,000 get you a lot more in Malaysia?

EVERSPACE seems to be having more issues with Unreal Engine again with Linux support
29 Jun 2017 at 9:41 pm UTC

Quoting: Luke_NukemAs far as I know, Linux support in Unreal Engine is completely volunteer maintained. Fairly certain no Epic employees are paid to work on it.
If they're going to do that, it would be nice if they could release the source code to the community to have help developing it.
