Wow, just seeing the name Jedi Outcast makes me want to dust off my copy and play it again. That was such a good series.

New Steam Beta has more Game Recording improvements and a Linux fix

Switching to Big Picture Mode seems to be broken on many Linux distros. It lags horribly unless you have steam launch directly into it. I hope they fix that soon.

Manjaro Linux want your system info with their new data collection tool

I'm hoping enough people will tell them they don't want opt out so they'll reconsider. I'd hate to see it die over something this dumb.

There is this perception with technology that because they can, they should, that more private data is somehow necessary. But we know it's not because the technology hasn't always existed.

Back before the internet, people sold software and had no way of knowing what people did with it, and their businesses were fine, better than fine in some cases.

EA / Respawn now block Apex Legends from running on Linux and Steam Deck

This seems a lot like airport security in the US. Some executive told them they had to do something to appear like they're making it more secure, and Linux is an easy scapegoat. The fact that they say it's "not easy to detect" but they must've detected them if they identified Linux as the source shows this is low effort. They're blocking Linux because it's the easy thing to do, not necessarily because it's the most effective.

Steam games will now need to fully disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages

Quoting: NociferAnd also, when we're fully done with the game, all we need to do is delete the prefix and any remnant traces of the anti-cheat crap will get thrown to the bin along with everything else. We really do have it better than Windows peeps in that regard :)
And in many other regards too.

AYANEO tease the AYANEO 3 as a 'revolution' and a 'completely new concept'

If people want to keep SteamOS and all the offshoots like Bazzite alive, it's important to keep buying products that ship with Linux on them. While it's great that people can install Linux on other devices, the continued financial support of projects like Proton depends on our purchases.

In other words, get a Steam Deck first. If you want to get secondary Windows devices and install Linux, go for it, but please support Linux devices first.

Assassin's Creed Mirage arrives on Steam as Ubisoft return to Valve's store

Quoting: PhiladelphusI know it's supposed to look inspiring, but I can't help seeing the guy in the thumbnail of the launch trailer as doing an A-pose.
Thanks, now I can't unsee that. lol

Valve still waiting on a 'generational leap' for Steam Deck 2 - but it's coming
16 Oct 2024 at 5:16 pm UTC Likes: 2

We've seen generational leaps in GPU and CPU technology, but they are obviously not efficient enough to run in handhelds. What I would really like to see is a generational leap in battery technology. Once someone creates batteries that can significantly increase play time without sacrificing power, they will have cracked the sacred code.

Capturing a creature by throwing out an object wasn't invented by Pokemon. Humans have been doing that for thousands of years.
