Some thoughts on switching from Ubuntu to Antergos for Linux gaming

Quoting: 14To all of us commenters:
I don't think it's cool to attempt convincing someone why they should switch distros unless they ask for it. We all have reasons for liking the different ones out there.
I don't really see the problem if people are being respectful. Are we that fragile?

People should be able to talk about their favourite distros without people resorting to name calling and disrespectful behavior, like pushing the recommendation after people have said no.

Some thoughts on switching from Ubuntu to Antergos for Linux gaming

Welcome to the Arch world! :D

I do love the convenience of Manjaro. Mhwd, mhwd-kernel and OpenRC version.

I never really liked Ubuntu and it's derivatives. I started out using Debian.

I've tried Antergos, I just don't see what makes it different from every other distro out there. In my eyes it is an inferior distro to Manjaro.

ARK: Survival Evolved plans to use Vulkan for Linux this year

I quit ARK in early 2016 (I even went so far that I removed ARK from my steam library). I had a lot of fun with friends on private servers, but I quit the game cause it was too buggy, even for early access, and the Linux version was horrible when I quit. The Linux version had a lot of common texture books and the game generally looked like it was from 1995, while taking a lot of resources for doing so.

Then I heard about their paid DLC, while still being in early access. If I had stilled played the game by then I would have quit, cause that is unacceptable.

I think the problem for many developers is that the engine and the middleware makes the porting difficult. However, lack of knowledge for the different kind of OS isn't an unknown thing in gaming industry. After all, we keep seeing PC, when they mean Windows or Windows PC, and not Linux, Mac etc. Which I find quite infuriating. It's the same as saying that this part works with CARS but it actually only works with Ford cars. Tbh, I don't think this would be acceptable in many industries.

Quoting: GuestStuff like this and games just in general being a problem to even get running makes me question whether supporting Linux gaming is even worth it in the end.
Diversity and multiple choices is, and will always be worth fighting for.

Quoting: tuubiPlease be active and enthusiastic about Linux, but don't throw tantrums when things don't go our way. If you get wrongful treatment from volunteer moderators on a forum, the only productive choice is to report them to the developer. Even a justified shitstorm always results in a stinking mess.
I would send a PM to the moderator asking him about it. Depending on his answer I will accept it or move up the chain of command.

I don't use the steam forum cause the moderators mostly seem to be biased against linux users.

Also, these windows users who hate on Linux are scum, trash etc. It takes a special kind of asshole to hate on a marginalized group of people.

Quoting: fatriffIf you aren't happy using the Cloud version then you need to take a good look at where the world is headed because all applications are going to eventually be cloud based.
Moving towards cloud based applications does not equal moving towards a future without any local applications. People will still need the advantage of being able to use their software without being connected to the internet.

There are also plenty of places in the world where people don't have a very stable internet, and places they don't have internet.
